Building and Grounds Meeting Minutes
Wednesday, June 11, 2008
Opening prayer at 7:05PM
Attendees: Bob Paul, Jean Rhodes, Jean-Bernard Nganou.
Excused: Charlie Yaryan, Donna Mathis
Old Business
· Work Day
· Workers: Austin and Gena Breck and Kyle and Rachel, Ed Mathis, Nora Yaryan, Bruce Pearson, Tommy Matkin, Jim Parks, Bill Diener, Lynn and Judith Ames, Brian McPherson, Mike McClanahan, and the five members of the Buildings and Grounds Ministry. (Total of 20)
· Completed 7 projects, worked on and partially completed 2 others.
· It was a time of good fellowship with pastries, fruit (by Donna Mathis) and coffee but the weather was very hot.
· Unfinished work and newly uncovered work that is needed:
· Quadrangle fence- paint.
· Wooden fence around a/c units - Branigan Hall.
· Paint refrigerator bumpers.
· Free up emergency doors – N side of Branigan.
· Light fixtures – Need a final count.
· Tubes
· Ballasts
· Diffusers
· Quadrangle surface, Bob Paul will talk with Randy Farmer.
· Outside night lights. Two with broken lenses still, West end of Watkins Hall and Watkins north wall behind kitchen.
· Overhead light on West Side of sanctuary. Repairs were attempted on workday but the lens could not be securely mounted. We will need to call an electrical shop to take care of it.
· Turnout was good but we needed more help with the painting. It was decided that we were in conflict with vacations and the weather was too hot.
· Columbarium interest questionnaire. Initial returns are in. Twenty-eight (28) members were in favor of some form of columbarium. Nine (9) were opposed. Bob Paul will present the results to the Session, asking the Session to approve the next step of the project.
· The sprinkler heads in the Quadrangle were cleaned by our grounds maintenance contractor. (What else, if anything needs to be done? Seeding? Leveling?)
· It was found that rest room doors are precluded from being fitted with automatic closers because of safety issues with smaller children.
· The gate latch on the SE corner of the Children’s Garden, (Branigan Hall) was repaired with a big assist from Travis Becker.
· The Work Order Forms were upgraded. Still need minor corrections. Bob Paul.
· The chairs and tables inventory was completed. Results will be transmitted to the Administration Ministry.
· Next phase of Columbarium-Bob Paul will seek approval from Session for additional planning.
· Brian will put in two extra hours each day during Vacation Bible School. Brian agreed and the Building and Grounds Team approved it as well as Administration.
· New Director of Children’s Garden is Diana. Bob Paul has talked with her by phone. She noted that the recent state inspection had issues with playground wood chips. We will see if Brian can move the chips back into position on each Monday morning.
· New Work List for Brian is needed. Bob Paul will find an electronic copy or build one.
· Some thoughts on how often we should organize a workday were discussed. This will be finalized and announced. We are leaning toward four times per year.
The meeting closed at 8:05 with prayer.
