MEETING
MINUTES
BUILDINGS
AND GROUNDS MINISTRY
11
August 2009
The meeting opened with prayer followed by a farewell to a
Brother: This meeting provided an opportunity to thank a faithful servant of the
Lord. Jean Bernard Nganou, Deacon Representative on our committee has served
diligently for three years. He has completed his PhD in electrical engineering
and will soon be teaching at the University Level. This family has a special
place in our hearts. We know that their lives will be blessed and we look
forward to their future visits to Las Cruces.
In attendance were: Bob
Paul, Bill Brady, Ralph Miller, Austin Breck and Jean Bernard Nganou. Excused
was Charlie Yaryan.
Old business-
- Electronic sign- Two members
of the Buildings and Grounds team visited Anthony New Mexico High School to
view their electronic sign in order to evaluate the product of one of the
leading venders in the country. We found it to be a high quality, versatile
product that is easy to program and operate. We are refining our
specifications and a financing plan for submission to the Session. The school
representatives were extremely cooperative, knowledgeable and helpful.
- Janitorial service. The
amount of effort that is available seems to be adequate but a better vision of
resource application is needed. A review is in progress with a completion
target date of September 20, 2009.
- Maintenance Items-No
detailed plans were developed except ASAP.
- Several overhead lights in
the Sanctuary are not burning
- Light Fixtures in Jones
rooms need fluorescent tubes and lenses replaced.
- Need an initiative in
Children Garden to establish display fixtures for hanging posters and
drawings
- Installation of new paper
cup dispensers in rest rooms in the sanctuary is required.
- Repair of fence section on
the east side of the quadrangle where it was removed to replace the water
main.
New Business
- The new grounds maintenance
contractor started service under his new contract. The company is Single Tree
Lawn Maintenance and Landscaping. They found the irrigation system (that runs
off of our well) in a state of considerable disrepair. They have begun a
program of maintenance and repair starting with the most egregious
discrepancies first. We are looking at getting together for a work day in
November.
- We will want to develop
maintenance teams with responsibilities for areas and types of maintenance
skills that will work somewhat autonomously once a project is approved. We
will recruit saints to work in the areas of painting, plumbing, electrical,
carpentry, etc. Two work days a year get some of the most needed work done and
promotes great camaraderie but continuing efforts are really required to keep
up with requirements.
The Next meeting will be on
Sept 8, at 7:00pm.
The meeting was closed with
prayer.
Respectfully, Bob Paul,
Moderator
