February 4, 2008
Present: Susan Grandle (Moderator), Gary Gemoets, Olivier Huebo, Blain Goss, Rev. Norm Story, Travis Becker.
Absent: Tracy Geiger, Gena Breck
Gary provided the opening devotion and prayer
Susan asked the committee to appoint a secretary, no one accepted the job permanently however Travis agreed to take minutes for the meeting.
Susan spoke to the committee about the Elders retreat and what had been discussed.
The Budget report was accepted as written.
Susan distributed a handout from Kathy Shannon the financial secretary that stated the high school winter retreat budget would be ready for review by the next meeting.
All reports were accepted as written- with the exception of the committee asking Travis to table the mother’s day flower fundraiser for the mid high students due to the risk of congregational donation fatigue.
New Business:
The committee discussed changing the start time of Sunday school from 9:00 am to 9:15 am. However after consideration felt it would be more beneficial to those teaching to leave the time at 9:00am. The committee then discussed how Sunday school is “fizzling” and we have already lost two groups (women’s, and men’s study) discussion around how to improve these groups and the attendance of others was discussed. Everyone was asked to pray for the at least 10 people who have stopped coming to Sunday school. Another issue discussed was the lack of elementary Sunday school teachers. Committee asked that we pray for new teachers to step up and that when they do we as a Christian education team are able to train them and equip them to teach those students. Tracy was not present so discussion on Easter was brief; we stated that we wanted it to be another intergenerational bible study and that the mid school would be doing a fundraiser in conjunction with the men of the church.
Old Business:
Norm was present to clarify the questions the team had on the Communicants class. He was able to clarify everything the group was looking for and also said that he felt the communicants class should be held twice a year once around February-March and another in the September-October area in order to reach all the students that wish to attend. The team then finished the work on the congregational analysis by going through he months of October, November and December.
The meeting was closed in Prayer by Blain Goss.
