MINUTES
March 4, 2008
The minutes from the last meeting were approved, and the budget report was reviewed. We then received written reports for Sunday school, Youth, Adults, and Salt & Light.
New Business:
Report from Tracy and Susan on their recent conference trip:
1. Opening Doors to Discipleship. This is a free program available online for teacher training, bible study, and Reformed faith theology. Members of our church can register and have access to these materials. We discussed the various parts of the program and decided to have each of us (CE members) “take” two lessons (Teacher/Leaders and one of the remaining lessons). At the April meeting, we will share with the committee our reactions to the materials. If the committee’s response is positive, Opening Doors for Discipleship could be adopted by CE for use this year. (No action item for session at this time.)
2. The Discipleship Project. This also is a free program available online which describes a method for encouraging discipleship growth among all members of the local church. The materials and instructions for implementing the system are provided without cost to any local church that wishes to adopt the program. Since discipleship includes but goes beyond the focus of CE, we discussed ways in which such a program might emanate from the formal leadership of the church (Session).
Old Business:
Easter Sunday: We talked about how to coordinate the breakfast, egg hunt, and an intergenerational Sunday school fair. It appears that both the egg hunt and the fair (crafts, family Bible study, puzzles, etc.) will occur during the 9:00-10:00 hour.
VBS will be held June 16-20, 2008.
Action Item: April 26, 2008--Lock-in at the church for mid-high and high school students. It will be a 30-hour famine in which students will not eat (but have fruit beverages and water) to learn more about hunger and how Christians can reach out to those in need.
