MINUTES

August 5, 2008

In attendance: Travis Becker, Gena Breck, Tracy Geiger, Gary Gemoets, Blaine Goss, Susan Grandle, Mary Ellen Gregg, Olivier Heubo.

 The minutes from the last meeting were approved, and the budget report was reviewed.  We are within budget for the year. 

 Gena reported on Sunday School attendance and also noted that staffing for the fall is beginning to settle.  Travis reported on the mid-high trips to Hobbs and Denver.  He also indicated that his last day with FPC is Friday August 8, 2008.

 Tracy reported on the success of movie night, and suggested a possible men’s fellowship night.  Preparations are underway for Salt & Light which begins Sept 10th.  We still need volunteers for cooking, table leaders, teachers, etc.  The S&L dinner, after church, will be on August 17th. Other children’s activities such as “Glow Day” have been well attended.

 Gary Gemoets wishes to repeat the Night in Bethlehem on Dec. 20th.  He plans to promote this special evening via announcements during Sunday worship and media coverage as well.

 New Business:

 Tracy and Susan talked about the possibility of enhancing the program for children who are excused during Sunday morning worship.  Since this is the largest group of elementary aged children we have, they wish to use Sunday School curriculum material as well as videos.  The committee proposes to intermittently phase in this change during the upcoming fall.

 Old Business:

 For the month of September, the Sunday School classes will be emphasizing topics about prayer. 

 On August 17th, Bibles will be given to our 3rd graders and 6th graders.

 Session Action Items:  We need to form a search committee for a Youth Director.  A job description will follow later.

 Next Meeting: September 2nd at 7:00 pm.
