June 2, 2009               6:30 pm – Jones Hall

Present: Theresa Armendariz, Gena Breck, Susan Grandle, Mark Hellman, Martha Mitchell, and Greg Temple            Excused: Tracy Geiger and Olivier Heubo

Opening: Susan opened the meeting with a devotion and prayer at 6:30 pm.

Last Meetings Minutes:  Minutes were reviewed and approved.

 Budget Report:

Budget for VBS, one of CE’s primary visions, is $2000.  Careful planning with expenditures looks to be at budgeted amounts.  Actual costs to follow.  There was discussion for the reimbursement for the cost of the constructed bulletin board for the Discipleship Project.  There was discussion for Salt & Light funds to be separated from CE figures in the budget.  Salt & Light uses its own accounts.  Confusion exists when looking at available funds for CE programming.  There was a discussion towards the printout and reading of the CE budget.  A suggestion was made to have budgeted funds shown as quarterly or yearly instead of a monthly budgeted amount.

Sunday School and Church School:

No new items.  The Summer Sunday School, “Rock Solid Followers”, is taking place in Branigan Hall starting at 9:00am for all ages through 5th grade.  Currently, there is one adult class meeting on Sundays, the Women’s study on The Shack. Led by Susan Grandle.  Come and check it out.  Also, check out the Discipleship Project table in the Library.

 Youth:

The High School mission trip was a great success.  12 youth and 5 adults attended the Spirit West Coast in San Diego May 21 - May 25.  The Youth also had the opportunity to volunteer at Father Joe’s Mission in downtown San Diego.  The Mid-high youth will be leaving for their mission trip on June 28th.  Our youth along with other youth around the country will be helping the residence of Ft. Defiance, Az.  VBS, June 8-12, is another great opportunity for the youth to help with the younger children.  Other opportunities for youth to get together are the Play Days.  The next one will be June 18th.

 Old Business:

 Discipleship Project:

The bulletin board for the Discipleship Project has been constructed in Jones Hall.  A big thank you to Kathy Story.  The Discipleship Project will be kicked off to the congregation in July with an article in the Lantern.

 VBS:

Finishing touches are needed.  There was a discussion on a training event for teachers before next year’s VBS.  This is going to be a great VBS.  Come out and see the happenings June 8 – 12 from 9:00am to 12:00pm.

 New Business:

Aprendamos: The Children’s Garden and the community action group “Aprendamos” will be using our church grounds to hold a community open house from 9-2pm on June 6th.  Mark said he would be there passing out popcorn and info on the youth group. Susan will be there with a table advertising for VBS.

Items for Session:

To allow the youth to hold future fundraising dates and activities to fill in the gaps for expenses due to not knowing the budget rollover funds from 2008.  (Fundraising dates and activities to be promoted ahead of time for session and congregation)

Closing:  Gena closed the meeting with prayer at 7:30pm.

 Dates to Remember:

 June 8 – 12:                  Vacation Bible School; 9:00am to 12:00pm

June 18:                        Youth Play Day at Unidad Park; 9:00am to 12:00pm

June 28 – July 2:         Mid-School Mission Trip
