Congregational Life and Outreach Committee Minutes
Tuesday, March 10, 2009 7:00 p.m.
MINUTES
Present: Carissa Brealey, Cindy Tafoya, Larry Felhauer, Pat Felhauer, Donna Mathis, Rusty Smith, Kathy Story
Note: No CL&O Minutes from February, as committee shopped and prepared for Sweetheart Dance in lieu of usual meeting.
1. Meeting opened and closed in prayer.
2. Discussed Old Fashioned Hymn Sing and After Church Picnic:
a. Selected date, April 26.
b. Will have a salad theme. Congregation will be asked to bring salads to share, but CL&O will provide some as well.
c. Carissa took action to talk to Winnie about playing keyboard and the choir asking for volunteers to lead in hymn singing.
3. Discussed after church fellowship hour:
a. Donna is taking over for Joyce (who rotated off) in notifying the groups that are signed up to do fellowship hour, and making sure set up/clean up gets done.
b. Rusty and Larry offered to help her make up the reminder cards on the computer.
4. Easter Egg Hunt:
a. CL&O traditionally hosts this event each year. We agreed to do so again this year.
b. Discussed possible times/days, but settled on keeping the egg hunt after church on Easter Sunday.
c. We will provide stickers, candy, stamps, etc, as egg fillers and fill ~400 eggs. Carissa took an action to speak with Mark about having the youth hide the eggs again this year.
d. Larry took action to do a write up for the April newsletter and bulletin.
5. Discussed Family Camping Trip:
a. Considered a variety of dates. Wanted to avoid either weekend around VBS and Father’s Day weekend. That left May 30th (weekend after Memorial Day) or the last weekend in June (weekend before July 4th). We settled on May 30th thinking weather would be better and there would likely be few campers that weekend.
b. The trip will be overnight Saturday night at Aguirre Springs. We will hand out flyers before service for several Sundays leading up to the trip, and we will put something in the newsletter & bulletin.
c. We deferred discussion regarding activities until the next meeting.
6. Youth Garage Sale:
a. Looked into handing out pamphlets about our church during the Garage Sale.
b. The kids could put them in people’s bags when they check out.
c. Carissa took action to talk with Mark about it.
7. Goals & Objectives action from Session:
a. Host at least six events annually in which church members and members of the community can participate.
b. Develop a program of outreach with new visitors.
1. Larry suggested a rolling information stand to put out by the east and south doors with information for visitors, newcomers – membership info, Good News, etc.
2. Talked about what to do with the info from the registration pads when we have visitors. Cindy thought the Deacons might have a program that utilized this information but wasn’t sure. She took an action to check and we will discuss it again at the next meeting.
