Congregational Life and Outreach Committee Minutes

Tuesday, June 9, 2009  7:00 p.m.

MINUTES

Present: Kathy Story, Cindy Tafoya, Pat Felhauer, Larry Felhauer, Donna Mathis, Norm Story.

Meeting opened with prayer by Larry Felhauer.

Team discussed options for adding new participants.  This is a small group with a lot of activities to handle.  If we are going to do a good job of meeting our goals, we need to add more people to the team.  It was agreed to run notes in the Good News and bulletin and to reach out personally to others.  Some names were suggested.

A recap of the May 30 camping trip indicated turnout was extremely low.  The consensus was we scheduled it too close to the holiday and graduation.

Team conducted planning for the Prayer Breakfast.

·         Don Rhodes and In Betweeners will handle food.  Need to confirm they will also handle set up (Larry).

·         Kathy Story stated the Bell Choir will perform.

·         Larry will contact potential speakers and someone to handle the flag ceremony.

·         Kathy Story will work on getting folks for the music.

·         Larry will handle publicity in bulletin, Good News, Las Cruces Sun.

·         Larry will produce flyers and programs for the event.

·         Larry will talk to Don Rhodes about distribution of flyers.

Team discussed Movie Nights activity.

·         Scheduled for June 14, July 8 and August 12.

·         Carissa has indicated she will handle this, but other team members will be there to help.

·         Larry is handling publicity.

CL&O Team has Fellowship Hour on June 28th.

Team discussed a fall kickoff event "Back to School...Back to Church".

·         Blessing of the Backpacks - August 16th.

o        Will have kids bring their backpacks to service for a blessing.

o        Kathy Story will check with Mark Hellman about getting some sort of church related buttons to distribute for the kids to put on their backpacks.  Need to ensure it is something schools allow.

o        We will plan to hand out ice cream (Dixie Cups) at the church doors following worship.

o        Larry will handle publicity.

·         Leverage this to attract new members.
