Deacons Special
(E-mail) Meeting
April 22, 2008
The Deacons have a vacancy of one member in the Class of 2010.
The nominating committee will be looking for someone to fill that vacancy
but the Deacons need the Session to change the rules so that it can be filled properly.
The Board of Deacons is to have a total of 18 members, each to serve 3 years. This allows each member to serve on their assigned committees for a total of three years and gives continuity. There is nothing stated about a "Youth" member. Last year when the nominating committee set about getting Deacon prospects they filled one position with a youth member who only has a 1 year term.
That person was placed in the Class of 2008 because
everyone in that Class will go off at the end of this year as will the youth
member.
So we have 18 members (6 for each Class, except the Class of 2010, who will
serve 3 years). 7 members will go off at the end of this year.
(see attached chart)
On
April 22, 2008 a special Meeting was called by the chairman, by E-mail, to
discuss and vote on a resolution to go to Session recommending that the yearly
Deacon youth position be added as an additional Deacon.
It was acknowledged that if the Session approves it, the Session will set the
resolution up as a part of a congregational or special congregational meeting.
It has to be voted on by the Congregation.
The
resolution was approved.
Action:
The Board of Deacons will have a total of 18 members, each to serve a 3 year
term. An additional "youth" member may be elected to serve a 1 year term
