Music and Worship Ministry Team Minutes

June 10, 2008

Present:  Doris Morgan, Lynn Jones, Jacque Parks, Jim Parks, Wayne Maley, Marsha Topley

 The Meeting began with prayer at 7:00 p.m.  The minutes from May, 2008, were approved; and the budget was reviewed. Communion was served to 200 on June 2, 2008.

             Reports: The Mother’s Day rose gift was well received by the congregation. Guest speakers during Norm’s absence were also well received.

             Old Business:  A motion was made and approved to cover any expense that exceeds the budgeted continuing education for Kelly’s trip to the Concordia College workshop. The workshop will stress new skills that will make the church’s investment worthwhile with improved effectiveness. The desire to improve relationships among choir members is also anticipated. A summary of six desired outcomes of the workshop is given below:

                             1.      Acquisition of congregational teaching tools

2.      Understanding of music theology

3.      Congregational directing skills

4.      Better flow of worship service

5.      More effective choir and congregational responses

6.      Better coordination of service among all groups participating in the service

 Discussion of new communion set to replace the damaged trays was tabled until next fall due to other pending material desires of the church.

The search for a new church decorator is ongoing.

 New Business:  The idea, of a Good Friday Tenabrae service was introduced by Wayne because of a conversation with a church member. The idea will be presented to Rev. Norm Story. The committee members agreed that they prefer the Maundy Thursday service. Questions arose concerning the return to a Prayer Vigil on Good Friday. The idea will be explored at the next meeting.

 An e-mail from Rev. Norm Story was presented by Lynn. The article addresses worship and includes a survey to be completed by committee members. Marsha will summarize the surveys and present it at the next meeting.

 The meeting was adjourned with prayer at 8:30 p.m.
