MEETING MINUTES

AUGUST 12, 2008

Attendance:    Lynn Jones, Wayne Maley, Doris Morgan, Rev Norm Story, Kelly Temple

 Excused:     Marsha Topley,

 In Moderator Topley’s absence Wayne moderated the meeting and opened with prayer at 7:00 PM.

Minutes of June 10 meeting were accepted.  Communion was served to 223 on July 6 and to 209 on August 3.  We will need to take a more detailed look at budget as fall activities pick up.

 Old Business

            A notice about our Church Decorating Opportunity will be revised for The Lantern, Sunday bulletin and other announcements.

            In discussing the suggested Good Friday Tenabrae service we decided to consider it along with the advanced planning proposal (see below)

 Kelly reviewed a few of the many helps she received at the workshop she attended last month.  Her written report to the committee concludes, “I would like to thank the church and the Music and Worship Committee for supporting me in attending this workshop.  It was so uplifting and informational....I learned so much from all the people present.”  She described asparagus vs. broccoli singing and other techniques to use for enriching our music program. The written report is available on request.

 Rev Norm outlined changes to the worship planning process.  A motion was made and voted to support the advanced planning of worship services with an enlarged worship community using email responses to discuss enrichments for services.    

 The placement of a rose bud on the communion table in recognition of a new birth in the congregation is encouraged.

 Files of choir anthems have been sorted and the packets re shelved by liturgical calendar topics, by voice arrangements, and by suitability for different choirs (youth, bells, brass, etc.).  A motion was made and adopted to thank Lynn Jones and Barbara Kewley for reorganizing the choir library music and to support making available to other churches arrangements that do not fit our large choir.

 Team members were encouraged to continue to review surveys and worship helps found at www.gbod.org/worship 

 Next Team meeting will be September 9
