Music and Worship Minutes

Meeting opened with prayer at 7:00p.m.

Communion was served to 254 on Sept. 6, 2008.

Minutes from August meeting were approved and accepted.                                

 OLD BUSINESS:  The committee has not found a replacement for Marianne Novack, the church decorator. Continued effort is needed to find someone to fill this post.  Norm Story’s changes to the worship planning process are in development at this time.  Using e-mail, the plan involves members of the worship team and music staff communicating ideas for worship services far ahead of time. Musicians, according to Lynn, are excited about the new process. She said that services can be coordinated early and potential problems can be avoided. Lynn requested that the committee explore the purchase of boxes for the purpose of storing the choral music. These special boxes will preserve and protect the music much better than the current folders.  The committee agreed to do so.                   

 NEW BUSINESS: Marsha and Wayne proposed a special offering to be collected at a recital given by our choir to help fund Tom Trenney, organist leading the Pedals, Pipes, and Pizza workshop.  The workshop is scheduled for February 16th, 2009.  Wayne discussed the possibility of having a choral workshop on Saturday morning, followed by a Sunday morning worship performance and a Sunday afternoon recital.  The offering will help offset the cost of the guest organist/ leader of the workshop.  

Marsha and Wayne proposed a special retreat for our church musicians to be held at Mo-Ranch in Texas June 21-26, 2009.  Literature will be distributed to all involved in considering this retreat.

The committee discussed having an afternoon Christmas Eve service.  Norm is considering an early service for those families interested in an alternative to the evening service.  He will inform the committee of his decision.

 ACTION ITEM: Collection of an offering for special event: Organ workshop/Recital
