Music and Worship Minutes

JANUARY 13, 2009

Attendance:   Mark Geiger, Florence Hamilton, Lynn Jones, Marianne Maley, Wayne Maley, Jim Parks, Howard Smolleck, Rev Norm Story, Kelly Temple, Marsha Topley,

 Excused:    ALL Present

 Moderator Wayne Maley opened the meeting with devotion and prayer at 7:00 PM.

 Communion was served to 236 at the January 4 service

 Advent Review

     Each team member was asked to state two Advent worship experiences they found especially memorable and suggest two things that could enrich Advent worship next fall.  These were listed:

      Memorable

            Placement of the nativity–an outstanding focal point

Ornaments for children and their enthusiasm in receiving them (also ornaments sold to adults)

            Families together lighting the Advent candles

            The childrens’ program, especially the little angels, and the animals

            Great attendance that was near 300 or more at all December services

            The youth liturgist

            All the musical carols

            A Night in Bethlehem

            Organ carol improvisations

            Choir cantata with orchestra; Also the added concerts by high school choirs

            The Baptism

     Enrichments

            A family night service; A 5:00 family service

            Make available CD’s DVD’s of the musical programs

Use singers just before lighting Advent candles; add music for introducing the lighting

            Reduce candle wax spillage

            New switching for lights (unlink all sections)

            Advent booklet more focused on Christ’s birth (less on the cross)

            Sing more Christmas carols

            Reduce liturgy (service gets long for kids)

 

2009 Team Responsibilities

Lynn, Marsha and Mark will set up/clean up fellowship time on Sunday, January 18.

 Next communion is February 1, all available committee members are to help beginning at 8:30 AM in order to be ready ahead of Sunday School. 

 On February 22 missionaries Barbara and Joel Trudell will lead our service. 

 Annual team assignments include Florence–liturgists, Jim–liaison with sound and AV, Wayne–pulpit supply, Marsha–communion supplies and set up, 

 A new person is needed to monitor Childrens’ Bags.  Helpers are needed to work with Mariann Novak on decorating.   

 Lynn is reviewing sources of storage boxes for the choral music library.

 Choral Clinic/Organ Concert/Pedals, Pipes & Pizza Events

We reviewed activities that will require helpers for the February 13, 14, 15 events.

                                    Saturday Morning Choral Clinic and rehearsal

                                    Marcia will help with refreshments

                        Saturday lunch with clinician for Choral Directors

                                    Could be youth fund raiser

                        Sunday Afternoon Concert

                                    Movie screen and Projection

                                    Programs–include insert of participants names

                                    Offering – organ students and Ad Min Team

                                    Concert recording–Howard

                                    After Concert reception

                         Monday activities with organ students is responsibility of American Guild of Organists

 Copies of the annual report for the M & W Team were circulated with the request to submit edits to Marcia. 

 Next Team meeting will be February 10 at 7:00 PM

 The meeting was adjourned with prayer at 8:00 PM.
