MEETING MINUTES – MAY 12, 2009

 Attendance:            Melanie Grant, Florence Hamilton, Joanne Kersting, Marianne Maley, Wayne Maley, Jim Parks, Howard Smolleck, Rev Norm Story, Marsha Topley,

 Wayne opened the meeting at 6:30 PM with prayer. He read from the Directory for Worship: “To lead the congregation in the singing of prayer is a primary role of the choir and other musicians.. . . . ” 

 Minutes from April 14 meeting stand as distributed.

 Comments on the budget report include a request for year-to-date expenditures and percent of total budget.  Session is working to further tighten this year’s budget. 

 Communion was served to 244 at the May 3 service

 With Kelly Temple concluding her time as choir director at the end of May, it was agreed to distribute a Position Open announcement. A draft announcement sent with the agenda was simplified to read:

 Position Open: Choir Director at First Presbyterian Church, Las Cruces, NM,  to rehearse and direct Chancel Choir of about 40 voices and work regularly with the pastor to coordinate music for all worship services.  Position to be filled by August 1, 2009.   For a detailed Position Description contact the church office at 575-526-5559 or fpc1@zianet.com 

 All team members are asked to contribute to a list of expectations for position of choir director to guide the active elders on the Music & Worship Team.  Those elders Maley, Hamilton and Topley, will serve as a search committee using the advice of the pastor, counsel of other team members and input from members of the congregation.  Additional dates of significance:  June 15, final position description available using expectations list.  July 10 deadline for applications.  July 20 begin interviews. 

 Pulpit supply on June 29 and July 5 will be the Rev John Himes.

 Team responsibility: June 7 communion.

 Next team meeting is June 9–Expectation list to be completed.

 Meeting was closed with prayer at 7:25 PM
