MUSIC & WORSHIP MINISTRY TEAM

NOVEMBER 10, 2009 – MEETING MINUTES

Attendance            Melanie Grant, Florence Hamilton, Joanne Kersting, Wayne Maley, Jim Parks, Howard Smolleck, Marsha Topley, Rev. Norm Story

Not Present            Mick Geiger, Lynn Jones, David Klement, Marianne Maley

The meeting was opened at 7:07 PM by Joanne Kersting with a Thanksgiving devotion and hymn-prayer.

Minutes of the October 13 meeting were accepted as distributed with the addition of “Iglesia del Pueblo” added as participants in World Wide Communion.

There were 245 who partook of communion on November 1.

Viewpoints on Applause in Worship as printed in The Lantern were discussed.  It was moved and voted to encourage members to consider the rationale for their own personal viewpoint.

In response to a request it was moved and voted to support the American Guild of Organists request to hold their Pedals, Pipes and Pizza event in our facilities, next February.  The Director of Music will be asked to recommend the extent of our participation in a related Hymn Festival on Sunday afternoon, February 14.

Our current source has stopped supplying Children’s Bulletins.  Since our Children’s activity bags are being more effectively used, it was decided to discontinue providing the bulletins and be alert to feedback.

The new sound system installation (replacing the big black box in the bells area) is complete.   Controls have been carefully set for balance.  These initial best setting need to be marked so they can be readily reset if any changes are made.

Erin Taylor has agreed to assist Mariann Novak with sanctuary decorating.  It was determined that 6 to 8 people would be needed to help install Advent decorations on November 28 at 8:30 AM and 20 or more to assist with additional Christmas decorations on December 5 at 8:30 AM.

The team reviewed estimated needs for the 2010 budget, retaining all categories except “retreat travel,” as a guide to refine amounts during Session budget discussions.

Upcoming Team responsibilities: Communion preparation at 8:30 AM on December 6 and clean up after the service;   Fellowship Hour on December 27.

The meeting was closed with prayer at 8:30 PM
