FEBRUARY 09, 2010 – MEETING MINUTES
Attendance Melanie Grant, Florence Hamilton, David Klement, Marianne Maley, Wayne Maley, Jim Parks, Howard Smolleck, Marsha Topley, Paul Vaughan, Rev. Norm Story
Not Present Sam Bartholomew, Mick Geiger, Joanne Kersting
The meeting was opened at 7:00 PM with a meditation about the Lenten Journey
Team members revealed unique, embarrassing and challenging Easter time experiences.
Minutes of the January 12 meeting were accepted as distributed with a few edits.
There were 263 who partook of communion on February 07.
For the February 14 “Festival of Hymns and Anthems,” announcements are out, program copy is ready, rehearsals have been conducted. Team members, Paul, Florence and Wayne, agreed to serve to welcome guests arriving for the concert. The P, P, & P group will be inside ushers. It was agreed to position offering plates at each of the entrances. David will work with an Ad Min representative to collect/secure the contributions.
After Easter the team will be asked to help with communion and possibly other activity in conjunction with the Presbytery meeting on April 23. A Blessing of the Backpacks in August is the only other special summer worship event now scheduled.
Discussion of regular activities included the following.
Choir–goal is to encourage new ways of expression in worship, including use of new hymns. Noted were reports that some new hymns are difficult to sing and require steps to learning them.
Bell Choir–there are requests to use bells in combination with other music.
Organ – Howard installed new circuit boards. Following that pipes were re-tuned.
Pulpit Supply – On February 21 will be John Himes. He is added to our list of possible candidates. Jay Bishop was also recommended for the list.
Liturgists, Children’s activity bags, Young Disciples leaders and Sancturary decorations leaders made no special requests. Marsha has ordered palms for Palm Sunday.
Sound/AV–In response to a request from AdMin Team it was moved and voted to gather more background and defer to next month a decision on adding a use of sound system fee to the schedule of charges. It was further moved and voted to recommend that no fee be asked for use of the sound system by the Good News Jail & Prison Ministry event because it is sponsored by church members.
From the Deacons it was reported that activation of the speaker in the narthex is still being worked on.
For Maundy Thursday service the addition of an A/V art presentation to the lessons and carols is being considered.
Upcoming team responsibilities include communion March 7, communion on Maundy Thursday April 1 (no communion Easter Sunday).
The meeting was closed with prayer at 8:30 PM
