Mission Ministry Team Minutes

April 8, 2008

 Present: Tommy Matkin, Moderator; Dutch Matkin, Bob Taylor, Robert McPherson, Rosemary Maddox, Alex Burr, Bruce Pearson

 Meeting: Tommy opened the meeting with prayer at 7:05 a.m.

 1. Miscellaneous correspondence received was distributed. The Avaloses in Arizona asked for help with two undertakings: A trip to Kenya and a conference in Colorado. No action taken. Bruce read a letter from Ruth Vallejo, Director of Priscilla Bible School in Mexico, thanking us for our support.

 2. Tommy has not heard from the Pontiers concerning the dates of their visit; he will try to call them. It was MOVED by Robert McPherson and SECONDED by Bob Taylor that we supply the Pontiers with some money for transportation.  The MOTION CARRIED by unanimous vote.

 Rosemary has had no reply to her letter of March 17th to the Harveys in Hong Kong. She will resend the letter via email and advise them that there are funds available to help them within the US.

Bob suggested  we emphasize to the missionaries that they should let us know as soon as their plans are firm, and ask them to send photographs of themselves to us in an email file to be used in the revised Missions Directory.

 3. Cristo Rey Board Meeting: Tommy did not attend.

 4. An article in Presbyterian Today, "Mission Trips--Avoiding the Pitfalls" was discussed.

 5. Bruce advised that Matt Holt will lead a youth mission trip to Juarez May 26 through 30 to build houses for the poor, and he is recruiting adults to help. Alex will ask him to write an article for the Lantern and Good News.

 6. Alex referred to an article in "Beyond Our Walls" in the April Lantern pointing out that some factions in the church want the leadership of the national church to change their emphasis on missions due to financial and theological difficulties.  He said you can go to the national church website and key in "Missions" and get more information about this

 7. Tommy received a request from Bread of the World asking for donations.  No action taken.

 8. The Pentecost Offering will take place May 11. Bruce agreed to speak about this in the Minute for Missions slot at the appropriate time.

 ADJOURNMENT: It was moved by Robert and seconded by Bob that the meeting be adjourned. The meeting was closed with prayer by Bob at 8:01 p.m.

Item No. 2, second paragraph, should read "Rosemary has had no reply to her letter of March 17 to the Harveys in Singapore...," not Hong Kong as stated in the minutes.
