MISSION MINISTRY TEAM MINUTES

June 10, 2008

Moderator Tommy Matkin opened the meeting with prayer at 7:05 p.m.

PRESENT: Tommy Matkin, Dutch Matkin, Robert McPherson, Rosemary Maddox, Bruce Pearson, and Alex Burr.

EXCUSED: Clint Woodward and Bob Taylor

 1. Approval of Minutes. It was noted that Charles Diebold's name was misspelled in the May 13 minutes. The minutes were approved with this correction

 2. Correspondence. A letter from the Pontiers confirms that they will fill the pulpit on July 20.

A letter to Rev. Story indicates that the Lyttons will be here from July 14 through early August and that we can expect them at Church on August 3. We will coordinate with the Worship Committee in making plans for their visit.

It was noted that an after-worship session with visiting missionaries has worked well in the past, and we will make plans for such a session for the Pontiers and the Lyttons.

 3. Beyond Our Walls/Lantern. The general opinion was that Bob did a great job on the article on the Harveys and the Pontiers, and that the new format works well.

 4. Peacemaking Offering. Some of the material to be used for this offering has arrived. Tommy has asked Tracy if she wants to somehow involve the children. The collection will be October 5, which is World-Wide Communion Sunday.

 5. Mission Directory. We are getting current information on our missionaries for the purpose of updating the directory.

6.Pentecost Offering.  Alex noted that 40% of the recent Pentecost Offering, which was $1,006.30, stays here, and he has learned that members of the Spanish Language Ministry, pastored by Rev. Wayne Hawkins, have frequent financial emergencies which strains the Ministry's budget.

It was MOVED by Alex and seconded by Bruce THAT we give our share of the Pentecost Offering in the amount of $400 to the Spanish Language Ministry to be used for family emergencies.  The MOTION PASSED by unanimous vote.

7. Casa por Cristo. Bruce went with Matt Holt's group on the May 26-30 trip to build a house southwest of Juarez, and said they built a complete 2-bedroom house in 3-1/2 days. He was extremely impressed with the efforts of the 1PC team, and especially the young people. He said the poverty he saw 40 miles from here was as bad as  anything he has seen in South America.

 8. Food Drive. Robert reported that the Deacons are planning an ongoing food drive to benefit Casa de Peregrinos and the Gospel Rescue Mission. The Deacons also voted to make a financial contribution to each of the organizations. Tracy is going to get the details in Good News and The Lantern.

 9. Adjournment. At 7:55 p.m. the meeting was adjourned to July 8 with prayer by Bruce.
