MISSIONS MINISTRY TEAM MINUTES

JANUARY 13, 2008

 Present:  Alex Burr, Janice Sherman, Jacque Parks, Rosemary Maddox, and  Blaine Goss

Absent: Clint Woodward and Bob Taylor

 The meeting was opened with prayer by Moderator Alex Burr at 7:00 p.m.

 1. The Trudells' Visit: Joel and Barbara Trudell, Bible translators serving in Africa, will arrive at the El Paso airport on Saturday, February 21; Alex will meet them. Jacque volunteered the use of a car for the week they are here, and they have been given the use of a house.  Alex said the Missions Team should make sure that they don't have any out-of-pocket expenses while they are here. 

   Joel Trudell will fill the pulpit on February 22.  He and Mrs. Trudell have agreed to give a presentation after the services on that day, and the Missions Team will take them to lunch afterward. It was suggested that they might like to attend Sunday School before services on the 22nd. Alex will ask Presbyterian Women and the Youth Director for their input about other presentations. He will write an article for the Lantern and an item for the Bulletin with details about the Trudells' service in Africa.

 2. One Great Hour of Sharing:  Materials will be sent to us for this offering, which usually takes place on Easter. We will do a Minute for Missions, and Alex will check with Tracy to see if she wants children's donation boxes.

 3.  National Day of Caring:  A request for support was received from this organization based in Farmington, NM. Its stated goal is to help children in Africa orphaned by the AIDS epidemic. Their latest report to the IRS shows an income of $100,000, with $7,000-plus given to the said orphans. No action was taken on this request.

 4. Support for Tyler Savage:   It is unclear what support is available for Tyler Savage. It is possible that he will talk to the Committee in April. 

 5. Missions Directory:   Bruce Pearson is putting together the text and pictures for the directory, but he would like someone else to do the graphics.

 Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned with prayer by Alex at 7:45 p.m.
