MISSIONS MINISTRY TEAM MINUTES
May 12 2009
The meeting was opened with prayer by Moderator Alex Burr at 7:00 p.m.
PRESENT: Alex Burr, Bob Taylor, Blaine Goss, Janice Sherman, Jacque Parks, Rosemary Maddox, and former Mission Team member Bruce Pearson.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes of the March 10 and April 14 Mission Team meetings were approved as published.
BUDGET COMMITTEE ACTIONS: At a recent Session meeting $17,000 was cut out of the $90 budget. The only reduction of the Mission budget was the removal of $250 from the discretionary fund.
TRUDELL EXPENSES: Alex advised that the Trudells had $150 in travel expenses which were not met. It was MOVED by Bob Taylor and SECONDED by Janice Sherman that we give the Trudells $150 from our discretionary fund as final payment of expenses of their recent visit. The MOTION CARRIED by unanimous vote.
MISSION BOOKLET REVISION: Bruce Pearson volunteered to revise the Mission Booklet when he was on the Team and he is willing to fulfill this commitment. Various matters relating to the revisions were discussed. He will put the material in draft form, to be printed professionally. He asked the Team members to keep the Mission files in the office up to date on their assigned contacts.
PENTECOST OFFERING: This offering will take place on Pentecost Sunday, May 31. Janice will do a Minute for Missions on Sunday, May 24, and Alex will write an article for the Lantern. He will talk to the office about bulletin inserts.
MISSIONARY ASSIGNMENTS: Alex said this includes keeping in contact with the assigned missionaries, maintaining their file in the office, and posting relevant material on the Mission bulletin board. The Soldwisches were not assigned because they have retired; however, their funding will remain in place the remainder of the year to assist with relocation expenses. The assignments are as follows:
Alex Burr will retain the Trudells in Africa, the Synod and the Presbytery, and Cristo Rey Outreach. He will also be the contact for the Campus Ministry.
Bob Taylor: No change. He will retain the Haspels (Suri Baale) in Ethiopia, the Prasads (Dalits) in India, and Pasos de Fe.
Rosemary Maddox will retain the Harveys in Oxford, England, and add the Priscilla School in Mexico.
Blaine Goss will be the contact for the Gospel Rescue Mission, St. Luke's Health Center, and the Lyttons in China.
Janice Sherman will work with the Barrons on Campus Crusade for Christ International, and Donna Evans, Bible Translator in Indonesia.
Jacque Parks was assigned to the Pontiers in Africa and the Waguespaks in Mexico.
LYTTON VISIT: The Lyttons will be here Sunday the 17th and will speak in the library after the services.
ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was adjourned with prayer at 7:40 p.m.
