MISSIONS MINISTRY TEAM MINUTES

Minutes of July 14, 2009 Meeting

 The meeting was opened with prayer by Moderator Alex Burr at 7:00 p.m.

 PRESENT: Alex Burr, Blaine Goss, Bob Taylor, Rosemary Maddox, and Janice Sherman.

EXCUSED: Jacque Parks

 DISTRIBUTION OF CORRESPONDENCE: Correspondence received was distributed to the appropriate Team members.

 MISSIONS DIRECTORY: Alex asked that each Team member write a page on their assigned missionary or mission, using the format in the existing Directory and updating the information where necessary. This should be sent electronically to Bruce Pearson no later than August 15. The subject of mission activity of special interest to some members of the congregation but which is not specifically sponsored by the church was discussed.

 PENTECOST OFFERING DISTRIBUTION: Alex had learned from Rev. Hawkins that there have been several cases of severe need involving children in the Hispanic congregation in the last few months. The giving of our share of the Pentecost Offering to the Hispanic congregation was discussed.

            It was MOVED by Blaine and SECONDED by Bob, THAT we give our share of the Pentecost Offering to the Hispanic congregation. THE MOTION PASSED by unanimous vote.

 POSSIBLE VISIT BY CAROL FUJII:  Alex received an email from the Synod saying that Carol Fujii is going to be visiting the Southeast area of the Synod in late September part as a mission co-worker from the National Church. She is itinerating in the area and people who are involved want to make her available. After discussion it was recommended that Alex find out what kind of presentation was being proposed and how much time Ms. Fujii would spend here.

 Bob announced that the Prassads from India may be available to visit here; he will find out what times are available and what the arrangements would be.

 FELLOWSHIP TIME JULY 12:  Alex expressed appreciation from the Team for the work Janice did in setting up for Fellowship time.

 PENTECOST OFFERING OCTOBER 4 - WORLD COMMUNION SUNDAY: We should soon start making plans for this event.

 OTHER ITEMS: Bob Taylor mentioned the passing of Ralph Winter, editor of Mission Frontiers Magazine, and presented an article about his work which he suggested would be suitable for the Lantern.

 ADJOURNMENT:  The meeting was closed with prayer at 8:05 p.m
