MISSIONS MINISTRY TEAM MINUTES

Minutes of January 10, 2010 Meeting

The meeting was opened with prayer at 7:00 p.m.

PRESENT: Moderator Alex Burr, Bob Taylor, Janice Sherman, Blaine Goss, Richard Paul, and Rosemary Maddox.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:  The meeting scheduled for December 8, 2009 was cancelled, thus there are no minutes for that date.

DISTRIBUTION OF COMMUNICATIONS: A letter was received from the Priscilla School stating that they are making an effort to increase visibility of their efforts by visiting local churches and distributing calendars containing information about their programs (one will be placed on the bulletin board in Jones Hall). They are recruiting more students, with the aim of preparing women to evangelize in their home cities.

Copies of "Mission Frontiers" were distributed.

FELLOWSHIP SUNDAY: Alex expressed his appreciation for help from Richard Paul and Lloyd Kirschenmann.

TEAM OFFICERS: There being no nominations or volunteers, Alex and Rosemary agreed to continue in their offices as moderator and secretary, respectively, for the current year.

PEACEMAKING SEMINAR: Alex has corresponded by email with the local mosque but has received no response. He plans to go there on Friday, when he assumes someone will be on the premises.

ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING: This special offering will take place on Easter Sunday, April 4th. Someone on the Mission Team will do a Minute for Missions on Sunday, March 27th.

ANNUAL REPORT: Alex asked Team members to send him any information they feel should be included in the Annual Report. He particularly would like information illustrating that the mission efforts of the church are not confined to the Mission Team, e.g., number of hours donated to El Caldito, information about Presbyterian Women projects, Christmas baskets delivered by the Deacons, food delivered weekly to Casa de Peregrinos, the annual Socks and Undies drive, etc.

MISSION BULLETIN: Alex reported that in many cases the text submitted exceeds the space provided on the page. Various methods of solving this problem were suggested and discussed.

BUDGET:  At the recent Budget meeting, the Missions Team was asked to cut its budget by ten percent. The retirement of the Soldwisches reduces our obligations by $2,000.  Various suggestions were made for reductions.

Blaine proposed eliminating the funding to the Bridge Ministry, $2,625 per year.  He feels this organization has evolved from a Christian ministry outreach for students into a professional counseling business which is not student-oriented. After lengthy discussion,

It was MOVED by Blaine Goss and SECONDED by Bob Taylor

THAT the Mission Team delete from its budget for the current year the funding for the

Campus Ministry.

THE MOTION WAS APPROVED.

The fact that the Haspels and the Prasads do not receive the same amount of funding was discussed. The reasons behind this are complicated, and no action was taken.

Alex questioned why Cristo Rey receives $420 more than other missions and missionaries, and suggested this figure be reduced from $3,045 to $2,625. Blaine felt this should be investigated before any action is taken.

It was MOVED by Janice Sherman and SECONDED by Blaine Goss,

THAT we not make any change in our funding to Cristo Rey until further investigation and until our Team member who sits on that Board is present.

 THE MOTION WAS APPROVED.

ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was adjourned with prayer at 8:50 p.m.
