STATED SESSION MEETING

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 21, 2008

 The Moderator, Rev. Norm Story, convened the meeting at 7:00 PM. Marsha Topley of the Music and Worship Committee provided the opening prayer and meditation.

 Elders present: Alex Burr, Carl Connor, Joyce Gemoets, Blaine Goss, Susan Grandle, Wayne Maley, Bob Paul, Bruce Pearson, Dina Schroeder, Marsha Topley, and Charlie Yaryan.

 Elders excused: Donna Mathis, Tommy Matkin, and Jacque Parks.

 Elders absent: Lon Anderson, Carissa Brealey, and Gena Breck.

 Guests: Jean O’Neil and Marianne Maley, members of the Presbyterian Women’s Association.

 Establish Quorum: The Clerk established that a quorum was present. 

 Approval of Agenda: The agenda was approved as submitted.

 Training: Chapter II, The Elements of Christian Worship, 1, Prayer in the Book of Order was the training topic. Several elders read Sections 1001 through 1005.

 Order of the Day motion was made, seconded, and passed to allow the Presbyterian Women’s Association representatives to speak at this time. Their main concern was how the session perceived their role in the Church? The comments offered were positive and supportive acknowledging that they played a vital role in the life and mission of the Church. A motion was made, seconded, and passed to affirm the ministry of the Presbyterian Women.

 Pastor’s Report: Oral. Rev. Story began by asking the elders for their support for the upcoming “Trunk or Treat” on Friday, October 31, 2008 in the Church parking lot. There will also be a pumpkin carving on Sunday, October 26, 2008. At his request, the two questions all committees were to discuss at this meeting will be postponed until November’s meeting. The questions are “What or where is God calling us?” and “Where do we see God working in our Church?” He is scheduled to perform the Sacrament of Marriage for Arthur Binder and Janet Green on October 24, 29008.

  Clerk’s Report: The Clerk requested and received approval to remove Ms. Phyllis Selders (#2561) from the Church roll due to her death.

 Rev. Story performed the Sacrament of Baptism for Ryan Emile Shipstead and his son Christopher William Shipstead on Sunday, October 5, 2008.

 Rev. Story also joined Lon Anderson and Denise Dearmond, both of Las Cruces, NM in the Holy Bonds of Matrimony on Saturday, October 11, 2008. 

 Approval of Minutes: The minutes of the Stated Session Meeting, September 16, 2008; Polling of Session on September 30, 2008; and Called Congregational Meeting on October12, 2008 were approved as submitted.

 Correspondence:

            Sept. 10, 2008 – Letter from Vivian Bowman on NM Parish Nurse Network

            Program – Missions Committee.

            Budget for 2008 - $554,295.00

Omnibus Motion to receive all Committee Reports and accept Financial Report: Approved by consent.

 Old Business: Alex Burr presented a status report on the Columbarium project. A motion was made to authorize the Columbarium committee to write a/an agreement(s) for session approval allowing the sale of columbarium spaces. The session will be polled by e-mail once the above is received.

  New Business: None

The next Stated Session Meeting will be Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at 7:00 PM. The Administration Committee will be responsible for opening prayer, meditation, coffee and snacks.

 Adjournment: Rev. Story adjourned the meeting with prayer at 8:25 PM.
