The Wilderness Run is a challenging and scenic course in the foothills of the Gila Wilderness, taking place off-pavement, on trails and dirt roads in the Gila National Forest. The 8-mile Wilderness Run, as well as the 5-K run (replacing the 2-mile run) and 5-K walk, start and finish at the historic parade grounds of Ft. Bayard. The new (2008) 5-K course circles the National Cemetary and the historic Ft. Bayard golf course. (For a more descriptive tour of the 8-mile race course, check here for our commentary).
RACE INFORMATION:
Registration: $25 entry fee
(includes an Champion Performance SS T-shirt). Download 2008 Brochure (below) to receive print entry
form. Mail in pre-registration
before May 20; Pre-registration guarantees that you get a T-Shirt. Race-day registration ($30) from
7:00-7:45 AM.

Awards and Age groups: First place
finishers, male and female, in each event--5-K walk, 5-K run, 8-mile Wilderness
Run, and Masters 8 mile--receive custom designed stoneware pottery awards.
Age groups are: (male/female)-- 19/under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69,
and 70+.
Staging: The start and finish lines for all races, as well as check-in and race-day registration, are on the grounds of the Ft. Bayard Medical Center. Participants will follow signs from Highway 180 to parking and check-in. Start time for the 8-mile run is 8 A.M., immediately followed by the 5-K run and the 5-K walk. There will be at least two water stations for the 8-mile run. Visit map links below for more details.
Sponsors: The races are organized by the Grant County Striders and are sanctioned by the Road Runners Club of America. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Silver High School Cross Country Teams. Our financial sponsors are AmBank and Southwest Bone & Joint Institute of Silver City.

morning and relax in the afternoon at the Blues Festival! This event, sponsored
by the Mimbres Regional Arts Council, is free and in the Park on Saturday!
