desert valley to elevations above 7,000 feet, these mountains embody a spectacular example of geological palisades
and unspoiled natural wonders. The Deming area features various scenic locations to attract tourists and vacationers.
Luna County Courthouse (55.9K jpeg image).
This building is but one of a number of fine historic edifices in Deming and the nearby village of Columbus. Deming was
originally a railroad camp established in 1881. Agriculture and ranching became the prevalent economic forces, and
these activities continue today. Tourism, light industry, retail, and retirement living are also key factors in the
local economy. Deming’s presence on Interstate 10, the major arterial route of the southern U.S., makes it a convenient
stop for highway travelers and OTR drivers.
Deming Rural Health Clinic (46.9K jpeg image).
This clinic is newly remodeled and offers quality family and acute health services. It is staffed with one to two family nurse
practitioners and a part–time physician. Other healthcare services in Deming
include a community hospital, medical office building, public health department, and a number of independent health practitioner
and physician offices.
Granite Street (66.2K jpeg image).
Granite Street is one of numerous tree–lined, shaded streets in Deming. Most of the city’s homes and yards are well–kept and
the streets are well–maintained. Local government initiated a city beautification project in mid–1997. Many of the
outlying areas are sufficiently developed to sustain comfortable rural living. Deming offers a healthy family lifestyle
with plenty of dining and shopping outlets, low crime, a 30–second “rush hour”, and myriad recreational opportunities.
Economic opportunities (with low tax rates) for small and medium–size businesses also abound.
