Creating Your Homepage

How to Create Your Own Web Page:  Ask your internet provider to set up a directory for your web page. Make sure you have FTP to transfer your web page  to this directory.  Your internet provider should supply one.  If not an FTP utility can be downloaded from the Web.

  2. Go to WinZip if you need a compression/decompression utility to unzip your files

    • Chime for viewing molecular structure on web pages.  Go to this really neat site for Chime examples, tutorials, and molecule collections

    • RasMol  for viewing molecular structures downloaded from the Web

    • Chemscape Chime - a Netscape plug-in which allows a person to view 3D molecular structures written into web pages

  4. Firefox is my favorite web browser.

    • PrintKey, freeware, a must have program for printing out complete or partial screens; very user friendly.  Just type printkey in the search box to take you to the download site.

    • Notepad+ has many more features than Microsoft's own Notepad.  Replace it with this one. Just type notepad+ in the search box to take you to the download site.

  1. Visit CSPAN to learn about the American Presidents.  Each week CSPAN features an American President and offers lesson guides for teachers and students.

  2.  Visit the Underground Railroad hosted by the National Geographic Society: Freedom means a hard, dangerous trek. Do you try it? The route you will travel is based on Harriet Tubman’s actual journeys.

  3. Learn about the variety of educational materials associated with Ocean Planet, including a set of lessons and marine science activities which adapt several themes of the exhibition for use in the middle and high school classroom.

  4. Students for the Exploration and Development of Space, SED, is hosted by the University of Arizona Lunar and Planetary Laboratory and has information on space, astronomy, rocketry and resource guides.

  5. The EXPLORATORIUM :  the museum of science, art and human perception is a fabulous place to visit.   It features online exhibits, science news and resources. The Learning Studio is a great resource for teachers (K-12)  and their students. 
    The Digital Library  has many online exhibits.  The Cow's Eye Dissection is one of the most popular demonstrations at the Exploratorium. For many years it has helped people satisfy their curiosity about what is inside an eye.
    Exploratorium Science Snacks are miniature versions of some of the most popular exhibits at the Exploratorium.  These "Snacks" use common, inexpensive, easily available materials. By using Snacks in their classrooms, teachers can climb out of the textbooks and join their students in discovering science for themselves.
