About Us
Anton's Marine is located at the intersection of Odessa Street and Anton Drive in the newly incorporated city of Elephant Butte. It was the first marine dealership in the Elephant Butte area. It was officially opened for business in May of 1969 by the Anton family under the name Elephant Butte Boat Storage. Jim and Carol Anton took over the running of the business in August 1969. This year marks the 30th anniversary for Anton's Marine. The Grand Opening celebration took place Easter weekend, 1970, when the boat and engine repair shop was fully functional. Jim Anton and Jack Beal were the first mechanics on staff. In 1971, when it became clear that too many businesses had Elephant Butte in their names, and companies couldn't keep them straight, the name was changed to Anton's Marine. 1971 also marked the beginning of a year long fight with the land developers that resulted in the restructuring of roads to the business, and with it, the short road to the east named "Anton Drive. |
