LED RADAR Bulb Failure and Teardown

A while back, I bought a two-pack of these LED bulbs to use as a front porch light. They only come on at night, and when they sense motion. After about two years, the first one died, so I replaced it with the second bulb.

The bulbs are marked "LED RADAR Bulb A21 15W 90-265V 60Hz 5000K Made in China"

The Teardown

Of course, I had to open up the dead bulb to see what was inside. Using a very thin screwdriver, the plastic globe was easily pried off.

I was not surprised to find that the failure was due to some burned out LEDs. As usual, the LEDs are in series.

Burned LEDs

This is what the circuit board looks like.

The RADAR sensor chip is the one marked KU5532. A search on the other number didn't find any information. The light sensor is to the right of the IC.

The only match for KU5532 found complete circuit modules at this URL: KU5532 Modules

The third module is very similar to the one in my bulbs.

Considering the cost of components vs buying new bulbs, I didn't consider it worth repairing.
