ABSTRACT:
On 15 Jan 1855, William J. Smith, Administrator of the Estate of Isom Gwin, deceased [John M. Gwin Note: This William Smith is the son-in-law of the deceased.] of Dallas Co., AL, sold for $1000 loan and $920 to John A. Lodor the land in the town of Athens, Dallas Co., AL, "beginning at the corner of Main and Cahaba Streets running South along Main Street seven chain and thirty eight links thence eastwardly three chains and thirty eight links, thence northwardly parallel with Main Street seven chains and thirty eight links to Cahaba Street thence westwardly along Cahaba Street three chains and thirty eight links to the point of beginning, reserving an alley at the point designated in the plat of said Town east and west across said Lots.  Also an interest of one half in Lot number two and three in said town having a front on Main Street of one hundred and forty seven and a half feet and running back east one hundred and forty seven and a half feet and also lots numbered six, seven, and eight immediately east of said lots altogether containing one and a fourth acres of Block number One and also one half interest with the following lots in said town Viz: the lot known as the second half acre of block no. eight and the north half of the third half acre of block No. three containing three quarters of an acre."

ABSTRACT:
On 18 May 1807, the State of Tennessee sold 249 acres on Walden's Creek in Sevier Co., TN. to Isham Gwin[John M. Gwin Note: This is Isham Gwin, my gggg-grandpa, father of John Gwin, ] for $249.

TRANSCRIPTION:
Number 2540--To all to whom these presents shall come, Greeting.  Know ye that in pursuance of an Act of Assembly passed November the twenty third Eighteen hundred and nine, There is Granted unto Isham Gwin a Certain Tract of Land Containing Two hundred and forty nine Acres lying in the County of Sevier on Walden's Creek Waters in the District South of French Broad and Holstin, there being due and Chargeable on said Land the sum of two hundred and forty Nine dollars with the Interest due thereon.  Beginning at a stake with Peter Brickey Then with George Amerine South thirty five East Forty five Chain to a sour wood Then with vacant Land South ten East Eleven Chain to a stake South five East six Chain to a stake Then with Bennifields line North Sixty nine East Seventeen chain and sixty Links to a rock north thirty seven East seventeen Chain and Fifty links to a stake Then with Vacant land North seventy four East Fifteen Chain and Fifty Links to a red Oak north Eighteen West twenty Chain and ninety links to a pine north Forty Seven West Twenty two chain and Sixty five Links to a stake Then with Sheilds line north Seventy four West Seventeen Chain and Fifty Links to a pine South Sixty five West Five chain and Fifty Links to a hickory north Eighty two West Eight chain and seventy five links to a poplar South Fifty West four chain and Twenty three links to a Sycamore South Eighty four East       three chain and Fifty Links South sixty west Five Chain and Fifty Links South forty three West four chain South Eighty one West Two chain and Seventy nine links to the Beginning.  Surveyed May the 18th 1807 with its Appurtenances To have and to hold the said Tract or parcel of land with its Appurtenances to the said Isham Gwin and his Heirs and Assigns forever.  In witness whereof Willie Blount, Governor of the State of Tennessee hath hereunto set his hand and caused the Great Seal of the said State to be Affixed at Knoxville on the Fifth day of August in the Year of Our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and Twelve and of American Independence the Thirty Seventh.

02.  From Dallas County Book A, p. 88:

ABSTRACT:
On 17 Jun 1826, Jacob Hoot, John Gwinn, and Rigdon Norris, agree to pay the State of Alabama $1000 if Jacob Hoot fails to perform the legal duties of constable in Capt. Rainer's beat on Bogue Chitto.

TRANSCRIPTION:
State of Alabama, Dallas County } Know all men by these presents that We, Jacob Hoot, John Gwinn, [John M. Gwin Note: This is John Gwin, one of my eight ggg-grandfathers.] and Rigdon Norris are held and firmly bound unto John Murphy, Govr of the State of Alabama and his successors in office in the sum of one thousand dollars.  The payment of which well and truly to be made and done we bind ourselves and each of us our and each of our heirs executors administrators and assigns jointly and severally firmly by these presents sealed with our seals and dated this 17th day June 1826.  The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bound Jacob Hoot has been duly elected constable in Capt. Rainer's beat on Bogue Chitto.  Now if the said Jacob Hoot shall well and truly perform all the duties which may be required by law, then the above obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and effect.

03.  From Dallas County Book C, p. 80:

ABSTRACT:
On 13 May 1832, William Gwin[John M. Gwin Note: This must either be William Gwin, one of my gg-grandfathers and (in 1832) 9-year-old son of John Gwin, or one of my ggg-granduncles and brother of John Gwin.  If it is the former, then John must have been training his son William early in the art of dealing in real estate, or perhaps he put this land in William's name to get a tax break, if there was such a thing.  At any rate, these are the only reasons I can think of that it might be this William.  If it is NOT this younger William, then it MUST mean that John had a brother William, probably the one for whom the younger was named.] of Dallas Co., AL, sold for $1.00 to Charles L. Matthews the W 1/2 of the SW 1/4 of Sect. 8 in Township 15, Range 10, (ca. 80 acres) ca. 1/4 mi. W. of Sardis, Alabama.

ABSTRACT:
On 31 Jan 1837, John Gwin[John M. Gwin Note: This is John Gwin, one of my sixteen ggg-grandparents.] of Dallas Co., AL, sold for $525.00 to Edward W. Hamilton 70 acres in the N end of  E. 1/2 of NE 1/4 of S. 14, TS 15, R 10, beginning at NW corner, running S. to a branch near John Gwin's house, then down the channel to its junction with the main stream called Sorell's Mill Creek, thence up said Mill Creek to where it intersects the E. line of said section, then up Section line to the corner, then W with the Section line to the beginning; witnessed by G. Bowie and Isham Gwin [John M. Gwin Note:  This is either Isom Gwin, the eldest son (age ca. 21) of my ggg-grandparents, John and Jane Gwin, or Isham Gwin, (age ca. 65-70) the father of my ggg-grandfather, John Gwin]

ABSTRACT:
On 12 Dec 1848, William Gwin and Rosa Ann C. J. Gwin [John M. Gwin Note: These are William and Rose Ann C. J. Wilson Gwin, my gg-grandparents, and children of John and Jane Walker Gwin and Nathaniel and Jane Jones Wilson.] sold the following part of lot seven (7): beginning at the NE corner of the lot running W on First North Street 47 feet, then S. parallel with Mulberry 150 feet or entirely across the half-acre lot, then E. parallel with First N. St. 47 feet to SW corner of the lot, to Stephen B. Barker for $400.00, by Francis A. Saunders, J.P.



08.  From Dallas County Book N, pp. 536:

ABSTRACT:
On 3 Sep 1849, Nelson Parsons (Dallas County Tax Collector), sold at public auction the SW 1/4 of the SW 1/4 of Sect. 12, TS 16 R 7 in Cahaba, Dallas Co., AL, to Isom Gwin[John M. Gwin Note:  This is Isom Gwin, the eldest son of my ggg-grandparents, John and Jane Gwin] for $15.80 in order to pay the tax on that land for 1848. (This 40-acre tract today lies fronting on Co. Rd. 188 about halfway between roads 29 and 45 and southeast of but not touching Hurricane Creek.)

On 16 Oct 1849, John and Jane Gwin [John M. Gwin Note: These are John Gwin and Jane Walker Gwin, two of my sixteen ggg-grandparents.] of Dallas Co. sold all of lots 219, 220, 221 and 222 and parts of 217 and 218 in the Town of Cahaba, Dallas Co. to Ezekiel B. Wilson [John M. Gwin Note: This is Lt. Col. Ezekiel Burdine Wilson, my ggg-granduncle and the brother of Col. Nathaniel Burdine Wilson, one of my sixteen ggg-grandparents.] for $1000.

TRANSCRIPTION:
A deed from John Gwin to E. B. Wilson was on the 16th day of October AD 1849 filed in this office for record in the words and figures following to wit: The State of Alabama, Dallas County, This indenture made this the16th day of October AD (1849) Eighteen hundred and forty nine between John Gwin and Jane Gwin wife of the said John Gwin of the county of Dallas and State of Alalbama of the first part and Ezekiel B. Wilson of the County of Dallas and State of Alabama of the second part, witnesseth: That the said party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of one thousand dollars to them in hand paid by the party of the second part at and before the delivery of these presents the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged and hath bargained sold and granted and by these presents doth bargain sell and grant unto the party of the second part to his heirs and assigns forever, the following described tract or parcels of land situate lying and being in the County of Dallas in the State of Alabama and also being and lying within the corporate limits of the Town of Cahaba to wit: Lots numbered two hundred and nineteen (219), two hundred and twenty (220), two hundred and twenty one (221), two hundred and twenty two (222), also lots two hundred and seventeen (217), two hundred and eighteen (218), together with all and singular the hereditaments and improvements thereunto attached or belonging, saving and reserving however that part or portion of lots two hundred seventeen (217) and two hundred and eigheen (218) commencing at the corner of Mulberry and fifth south streets running thence west along Fifth South Street eighty feet to the corner of South Sixth and Mulberry Streets, thence north along Mulberry Street entirely across Lots No. 217 and 218 to the Corner of Mulberry and Fifth South Streets to the beginning be the same more or less, to have and to hold the aforesaid tract or parcels of land, together with all and singular the hereditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining unto the sale and proper use of behoof and benefit of the party of the second part and his heirs and assigns in fee simple and the party of the first part for themselves and their heirs executors and administrators, do hereby covenant and agree to and with the party of the second part, and his heirs and assigns in manner and form following to Wit:  That they are seized of an indefeasible estate in fee freed from all incumbrances done or suffered from the party of the first part and from any other person or persons and also for quiet enoyment against the party of the first part their heirs and all persons ____________ in and to the purposes aforesaid.  In Witness whereof the party of the first part doth hereunto set their hands and seals the day and date above written John Gwin {SEAL} Jane her X mark Gwin{SEAL}.  The State of Alabama Dallas County SS. Wilson for the purposes therein mentioned, and the said John Gwin being by me examined apart from her said husband, acknowledged that she signed sealed and delivered the said deed freely without any fear, threats, or compulsion of her siad husband. -- Given under my hand and seal this 16th day of October AD 1849  Francis A. On 18 Sep 1850, David and Sarah A. Journey sold five lots on Main Street in Athens, Dallas Co., AL, to Isom Gwin and E. M. Wilson for $570.00.

A Deed from David Journey to Isom Gwinn was on the 19th day of September AD 1850 filed in this office for Record in the Words and figures following to wit:
The State of Alabama Dallas County}    This indenture made this 18th day of September AD eighteen hundred and fifty between David Journey and Sarah A. Journey his wife of the County of Dallas and State of Alabama of the first part, and Isom Gwinn [John M. Gwin Note:  This is Isom Gwin, the eldest son of my ggg-grandparents, John and Jane Gwin, and brother-in-law to E. M. Wilson] and E. M. Wilson [John M. Gwin Note:  This is Ezekiel Monroe Wilson, the fifth child of my ggg-grandparents, N.B. and Jane Wilson, and brother-in-law to Isom Gwin] of the County of Dallas and State of Alabama of the Second part, Witnesseth--That the said party of the first part for, and in Consideration of the Sum of Five Hundred and Seventy Dollars to them in hand paid by the party of the second part at and before the delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have bargained, sold, and granted and by these presents do bargain, sell, and grant unto the party of the second part and to their heirs and assigns forever the following described tract or parcel of land Situate, lying, and being in the County of Dallas in the State of Alabama, To Wit, the following Lots in the town of Athens and known in the plan of Said town as Lots No. two (2) and three (3) having a point on Main Street of one hundred and forty seven and a half feet and running back and Lots No. 6, 7, & 8 immediately East of Said Lots all together Containing one and one-fourth acres of Block (No. 9)  To have and to hold the aforesaid tract or parcel of land together with all and singular the [hereditaments?] and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining unto the sale and proper use of behoof and benefit of the party of the second part and their heirs and assigns in fee simple, And the party of the first part for themselves and their heirs executors and administrators do hereby covenant and agree to and with the party of the second part and their heirs and assigns in manner and form following to Wit, That Isom Gwin  E.M.
