John Paul Gwin

long lost Native American grandfather of

Jeanette Whytrock

{CONNECTION? In 2008, I noticed the same people on two different pages in my "unrelated-to-me-at-present" page and have notified the parties involved. I hope that they will investigate further and see if indeed they are related, and if so, will contact me with the confirmation (SEE BELOW). --John Gwin -- jmcdgwin@zianet.com}

I am looking for John Paul Gwin, b. 1901 Creek Co., OK; d. 1976, Cherokee Co., OK -- JW

Jeanette,
To my knowledge so far, your John Gwin is not a relative of mine. But I'm interested, so I looked for him in the 1920 Oklahoma census and  found the following:

On January 21, 1920, a couple who answered the census as John Gwin, age 18, and his wife Hazel, age 16, were roomers at 108 1/2 East
Hobson in Sapulpa (a suburb south of Tulsa), Creek Co., Oklahoma. His race was listed as Indian, hers as white. He had not attended school
since 19 Sep 1919, but she had. Both could read, write, and speak English. His occupation was listed as battery expert, hers as none. He and both his parents were born in Oklahoma; she and both her parents were born in Missouri.

However, on Apr. 4, 1930, a John P. Gwin, age 28, was listed as living on E. 2nd St., Tulsa, OK. He was single, Indian, a welder by trade, and a native of Oklahoma. But he listed his parents' place of birth as Kansas (father) and Oklahoma (mother).

Best to you,
In Jesus,
John  (Contact information:)

John, First I want to thank you so much for the information that you have sent. Yes this is my long lost grandfather. It has taken a very long time to find even how his name was spelled. No one in the family would give any information on him so it has been a long search. I am thankful to you. His mother was half Creek and half Cherokee. His father is white and born in Kansas.  Thank you, John.

Jesus is Lord,
Jeanette Whytrock

This shows all the promise of being the father of John Paul Gwin and the great-grandfather of Jeanette Whytrock. He is a white man named Gwin who was born in Kansas, is married to a Native American and living in Creek Co., Oklahoma, a year or two before John Paul's birth.

If William H. Gwin is in fact the father of John Paul Gwin, it means that John Paul had this older sister who is Jeanette's grandaunt.

I've not yet found anyone in the 1910 census who looks like either John Paul or William H. Gwin.

However, check this out in the
18 Jun 1880 Census of Centropolis, Franklin Co., Kansas:

Well, it's beginning to look like this is not a relative of mine after all. Since my own ggg-granduncle, Richard W. Gwin, ended up in SE Kansas, along with a lot of unidentified Gwin grandsons, I was hoping to find the link to him at this generation. However, there just seems to be no other William H. who fits, so for now, we're going to say that William's father is this Austin B. Gwin.

I think that this must be the father of John Paul Gwin.

In 2008 I noticed that HE ALSO APPEARS ON ANOTHER PAGE, www.gwinhoraciolucinda.htm . His full name is William Harry Gwin.

NOTE:
Some of the dates certainly seem to not agree,
but look at the names! I encourage you POTENTIAL cousins to get your heads together and share data. Have fun!
