Our objective is to tie together as many of these GWIN lines (all variations of spellings) as possible.  It seems that a good way to do is is to create as many pages as we can, place them online, and see who can spot something that the rest of us have missed so far.

1.  In September 2002, after I decided to pursue this route of building and posting as-of-yet unrelated pages, I contacted two people with whom I have been corresponding and asked them to supply information for the page.  The first of these is Ms. Marsha White of Jefferson Co., AL, wife of Walter Miller White, one of Littleton's great-grandsons.  She sent me copies of the following documents:

1. Today, 24 Oct 2005, I downloaded a 23-page PDF file from the internet. Entitled "Descendants of Littleton C. Gwin," it was posted by the Hueytown Historical Society, (www.hueytown.org/historical), updated September 2005, and contributed by a David Reed. The following is taken from those pages. Since the information is partially in agreement with and partially in disagreement with Marsha White's data in the opposite column, I decided to post both in this side-by-side format to allow comparison.

Hello John,
I just came across information on "Billy" Gwin.  This was in a newspaper article in Birmingham, Al. It first reported him missing in action during a mission between India and China.  "Lt. Gwin is the son of Judge James C. B. Gwin, Bessemer.  He received his A.B. degree from Howard College and has been in the service since January 1942."
Next article stated Presumed Dead--1st Lt. William S. Gwin, of Bessemer, veteran of missions over "the Hump" reported missing on one of the missions since Nov. 8, 1944 is now presumed dead, according to a War Department message to Mrs. Gwin.  Lt. Gwin  was pilot of a C-87 (Liberator Express) which left Jorhat, India, on a cargo mission to Chengtu, China, on Nov. 8, 1944.
The plane failed to reach its destination, and no trace of it or any members of the crew has been found."
This information corrects entry in Littleton Gwin's line on this descendent.  I have a copy of both articles if you would like to have them.
(There is a headstone for Billy in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Bessemer, AL, but of course his body was never recovered)

  Thank you for writing. You are obviously a Christian man, and I just wanted to say that my Dad knew where he was going, and it gives me great peace to know that he is in the arms of the Saviour. My husband is a pastor here in Va. and I shared the gospel with my parents years ago when I was a teenager.  He and my Mom lived with my husband and me for two years, and at times it was hard, and I regretted it, but needless to say, I am so so glad that I asked them to come live with us. They moved to a retirement home about 7 mos. ago.

  You have down his mother as "Dessie", and her maiden name was Stewart. Her parents, William and Margaret Stewart, were strong Christians who came over from Scotland. So it's nice to see the godly line coming through from parent to child, etc.  My dad's grandfather, whom he called Papa Cowen, was a judge. Judge Gwin. And he married one woman. She died. Then he married Dora, my GGrandmother, who was her sister! Then the other two sisters, who never married, came and lived with them as well. Interesting, isn't it?  Anyway, my Dad's issue, if you want it is: Kay Cowen Minter (12/11/1951) David Christopher Cowen (6/10/1954) and Carol Jo Cowen Webb 5/27/1958)

Hmmm. According to the data in the left column above, Little divorced his first wife, Mary Burchfield, in NC and moved to AL.  Now it's 1860, five yeard before Littleton dies, and here, living one or two doors from Littleton's sons, Stephen T. and Jeremiah M., is a Mary old enough to be their mother, with a "Chester" (Chesley?) B. and a Maltimore living with her! Parsons, then, could be her name by her second marriage.
