This was an old family cemetery; it is in very bad shape and is overgrown with vines and bushes, very hard to get through. The land belongs to the Thompson family. I can't say if this is all of the people in this cemetery or not. I did copy all of the stones that I could find, when I visited this cemetery on Oct 15, 2003. -- Dorothy Atkins
How to get there:
Take I-20 in Louisiana, exit 141, and go south on Bee Bayou Rd. six miles to a curve. Around the curve, the name changes to Crawford Road. Nine-tenths of a mile later the name of the road changes again to John Crocker Rd. for another nine-tenths of a mile, then tees into another road which is unmarked. Go south about fifty feet, then turn east on Parish Farm Rd. for about one and three-tenths miles. The cemetery is on the south side next to the road, but it's so overgrown, you can't see the stones from the road.
Stones Dorothy read:
Gwin, Isabell, b. 25 Jun 1845; d. 8 Jan 1919
Gwin, John M., b. 29 Oct 1845; d. 22 Oct 1910
Gwin, Oscar L., b. 11 Jun 1876; d. 20 Aug 1901

Roberts, Vencent, b. 2 May 1909; d. 11 Aug 1939

John M. Gwin's Comments
John M. Gwin abt 1846 LA Self TN LA It occurs to me that this could be a grandson of William Gwin, son of Isom and Mary Canterbury Gwin. We know that William and Susanna were married in Tennessee and
Isabelle Gwin abt 1845 LA Wife TN LA I would like to see Isabelle's maiden name.
Levi J. Gwin abt 1870 LA Son . . This middle initial probably is a J; however, it could easily be a  mistranscribed "I"--for Isom?

Tracking down the descendents of these four sons (Levi, Harry, Oscar, and John) in later censuses could lead us to living descendents who might be able to tell us about these parents, John M. and Isabelle.

Harry J. Gwin abt 1873 LA Son .

Oscar L. Gwin abt 1876 LA Son . . Oscar is buried with his parents at the cemetery, above. Tracking down the descendents of these four sons (Levi, Harry, Oscar, and John) in later censuses could lead us to living descendents who might be able to tell us about these parents, John M. and Isabelle.

After Thoughts

During the 1820's and "30's, when William Hixon was living a few miles east of the Alabama River near Claiborne, Alabama, Samuel Boughton had a store across the river several miles north in the next county. He had married Harriet P. Strother, a native of South Carolina; most, if not all, of their children, including Rebecca (Prewitt) and Roger Sherman, were born there at Lower Peach Tree.

James and Lucy Newberry, the parents of Mary (Hixon), Susan (Hixon), and Jane (Thames), had a number of sons, one named James. James, likewise, had a son named James Henry, who was the father of Eugene, Mack, and Julia; Julia married Levi Gwin, and their daughter, Isabelle, married T.A. Judd.
