| Carl Friederich Kuhn
was born in 1807
in Ulm (Germany) and died 1874 . During his boyhood he moved to Vienna
but soon left to England where the learnt the craft of making nibs. In
1843, after getting an imperial Austrian privilege to produce nibs, he
founded his manufacturory in Vienna which was the first one in continental
Europe. His entreprise grew steadily and soon started exporting nibs and
penholders, supplying international demands. The Firma Carl Kuhn &
Co. closed in 1936.
