SO FAR, SO GOOD... SO WHAT!?!

As the band entered the studio to begin recording their second album they were still signed to Combat records, but early into
the recording of what became Peace Sells... But Who's Buying? Capitol records bought the rights to all of Megadeth's material.
Megadeth have remained on Capitol ever since.
Capitol gave Megadeth $15, 000 to improve the sound and the cover of the album but wanted to change the name of it to
Wake Up Dead but Dave didn't want to change the name. The band decided to spend every last cent of the money given to
them to record the album with so consequently they all slept at the studio and tried to take as few drugs as possible. Randy
Burns and Dave co-produced the album and it was released in October 1986.
the band then embarked on a large stadium tour, opening for Alice Cooper, who is one of Dave's childhood influences (Dave
has done a couple of Alice tributes and one of those tracks - No More Mr Nice Guy - appears on Hidden Treasures). The
tour with Alice was however unsuccesful. The band then went on a very long headlining club tour (total touring time for Peace
Sells was about 70 weeks!) with Flotsam and Jetsam, Metal Church, Overkill, Necros, Overkill, Testament, Heathen and
others long forgotten as support. All This hard work paid off though: The album had sold over 500,000 copies by the time the
tour had finished.
There were two videos off the back of Peace Sells, they were Wake Up Dead and the title track. Both were popular but the
video to Peace Sells was banned in the UK because it would cause 'Fits of Frenzy' (noooooooooo <sound of man slapping his
forehead>). Also at this time MTV adopted the beginning of Peace Sells as the theme to news at night though they have
probably stopped using it. Also on Japanese TV Megadeth's version of I Ain't Superstitious was used for a  car commercial.
