I'm 55 years old and reside in southern New Mexico in the southwest U.S. I've been married and divorced twice, most recently to a woman I met online who moved here from Australia to marry me. Unfortunately, and for several reasons, it didn't work and was over in a scant 3 months.
I have a 36 year old daughter from my first marriage, who I raised as a single parent from the time she was 4 years old. That was the most rewarding time of my life and I wouldn't have missed it for the world! She's my best friend and we are very close. She now lives in Florida with her husband and recently had her first baby. I miss her lots but had the opportunity to spend a month with her a year and a half ago. We had a ball and shared many stories from the past with her husband. if you have looked at airfares lately, you'll understand why it was the first visit in 5 years. I hope to see her more often. *I'll be taking up an airfare collection!* (note; Lisa is presently in remission from a battle with cancer. I was with her in July, 1999 for two weeks while she was in the hospital for her radiation treatments. See the Newsletter link from the front page for more information)I'm employed by the Dept. of the Army at a nearby military installation and have been there for the last 20 years. I work for the community club (formerly the Officer's Club) so I'm involved in feeding and watering the troops and civilian employees who work on post. I've met some very interesting, brilliant folks out there and, never having been in the service myself, have slowly developed an understanding for the unique needs of our folks in uniform and their families. Believe me when I tell you, it. can be a grueling lifestyle. We owe them a debt of gratitude for, if nothing else, living that precarious lifestyle on behalf of their fellow Americans.
I recently talked with the wife of one of the unit commanders while she waited for a food order in our cafe. They are being force moved out of the house they moved into just 6 months ago, to accomodate repairs and renovations on the house. They may or may not have to move back into the same place. She told me that in 29 years togeather in the service, they have moved 26 times! Their daughter recently commented to her Mom that the longest she remembers living in one place, was the four years she spent in college. Now how many of us could live that way?
Some of my interests are music, (mostly jazz) hot air ballooning, computers, camping and cooking for, and with, friends and loved ones. My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving 'cause I get to spend the day cooking and enjoying the company of my family . Some of my oldest friends live nearby and I consider myself very lucky to have such loyal and loving people in my life. I also have many good friends on line and I've come to treasure them as much as those who are physicaly close. I never cease to be amazed at how relationships can develop through the internet. The friends who hosted my most recent wedding in their lovely home are folks I met on line. I didn't know for months that we even lived in the same community ! We also had other 'net friends from Texas fly in for the wedding, and one of our first phone calls following the ceremony was to a good 'net friend in Canada. What an era we live in!
So, if you like, feel free to drop me an email. I like to meet new folks and will return your mail as soon as I can!
