Pinning our moths

Making an attractive, valuable collection is not too difficult, it just needs attention to detail.
A nicely prepared collection of moths and butterflies is one of the most striking works of art to see. Obviously, the wings of the creatures are the most noticeable features, but for a collection to have any scientific value, all the parts of the bug must be kept intact... legs, antennae(in many saturnids the antennae are quite impressive in their own right), bodies, everything. I remember going into a shop in Key West Florida a few years ago, which was selling large displays of tropical butterflies set up in 3-D glass boxes and frames... Almost all of them were missing heads or abdomens, or both... some were nothing more than wings glued on to bits of wood. some of the larger displays were selling for well over $1000... but to me they were severely lacking. I asked the shop owner why they were all broken, and the reply was that no one ever seemed to care about anything but the wings. Oh well. Not on my watch.
