What is a Hyperlink?

- A hyperlink is an electronic link attached into the text of a web page or email document that when selected...by clicking on it with your mouse will take you to:

Try all of these possibilities by clicking on each of the above bulleted items with your mouse. After you experience the action, choose the <back> command on your browser. That will bring you back to this part of the page.

Remember... if you have any problems during this exercise, send a big red N message to katgraham.

Go back to the White Sands School Site. To do that... choose the back button until you get back to the school site. If you did not wait for the school site to load fully before, you will have to type in the address of the school site into the URL: Address space above this page. Type in:

http://school.wsmr.army.mil

It must be exact. Otherwise it will give you an error message. Let the site load in all the way. Study at least two pages of the site and send an email message to the webmaster with your feedback. Feedback is critical to good site upkeep and development. Webmasters like to hear from clients. Make sure that you sign your feedback.

Did you notice that when you sent your feedback that the Subject line was already filled in by the browser???

The programmer/Webmaster did that for you when they set up the site. This site was created using a mark up language called hypertext markup language... you might have heard folks talking about HTML. That is what that means.

Time to search for some sites: Here is your mini web hunt:

1. What is you class studying right now? A person, a time in history, a bug, an author, a type of literature???

Find two great sites that you would like other teachers to know about and send the address and a writeup of those sites to the Webmaster. The webmaster will send the results of this search to all of the participants at our school.

Click on the apple link: small apple image This link will take you to an interactive form. You have to fill out the complete form before submitting the information. Otherwise you will get error messages. Interactive forms can be sort of fun. Come back here when you are done!

Before you send the information, you will have to use the search button on your toolbar and find some great sites. Think about keywords that you can suggest to the browser. For example, if I wanted to know more about Haiku... I would type in: haiku and Japan and poetry

Go on a search and find some goodies. Come back and fill in the form. That will end your browser task for this part of today's training. Have fun! Do more than one... The more you send, the better our school directory will become!

2. Now find some online images to save to your temp files. Did you know that if you see a cool picture online that you can copy it as a file into your hard drive or save on a 3.5" disk? Try this first...

right click on the apple image above. Choose save image as... And save it to A:\ Make sure that you have a formatted disk in your A: drive. It will save the file there as apple.jpeg

Now go and find some cool images on your own on the Web. Try to do a search using keywords like:

image and download and files

Send another link form to the websitemaster!:

You have now completed you webquest exercise. Send an email to katgraham with a statement of what you learned, what you would like to know more about and whatever else you can think of. If you hated this... say so... If you did... please say why and what you really need! In other words... How would you change it?

Thank you for your participation and we hope that you had fun!
