City of Las Cruces Trunked Radio System

The City of Las Cruces operates an Ericsson EDACS trunked system with the following talkgroups:

353 - Police
354 - Police
355 - Police

There are undoubtedly more but I don't have a trunking scanner at the present time. It's a typical Ericsson system with the anti-scanning tones at the end of each conversation to keep your scanner occupied.

Even so, it is possible to monitor the system with a nontrunking scanner, but you have to be quick with your MANUAL key. The system seems to assign the next free frequency, from lowest to highest, so if you step through, ignoring the anti-scanning tones, you can follow a conversation across the system.

The Mesilla Valley Regional Dispatch Authority has the capability of linking a talkgroup with a talkgroup on the City of El Paso's Motorola SmartNet system. Yes, the systems are incompatible, but the Public Safety Wireless Network's Integrated Program Team found a way to work around that. This PDF document describes both systems and the solution they devised to give not only both cities, but other regional agencies, the ability to communicate with one another using their own radio equipment.
