The Annual KNMB Program of Grants

General Structure

Each year Keep New Mexico Beautiful awards grants to schools, municipalities, chambers of commerce, organizations, and governmental agencies. Grants are allocated in a number of categories:

NM State Birthday Grant

To mark the founding of New Mexico (January 6 1912) State Birthday Celebrations including plantings, litter eradication, recycling activities, etc. are held during the month of January each year.

Arbor Day Grant

Arbor Day Celebrations, including, special events, planting of trees, vegetative restoration projects, and other beautification activities are held during the month of March. KNMB will honor an organization or community within the state and will celebrate their initiatives and promote their achievements.

KNMB Month

KNMB Month grants are provided to celebrate Keep New Mexico Beautiful Month in April in conjunction with Keep America Beautiful Month activities.

Education

Education grants are provided to assist schools, educators, and students with an opportunity to make a difference in New Mexico through education. Projects may include, environmental awareness, environmental projects, tree plantings and campus xeriscape projects, educational outdoor gardens, horticulture/nature education, recycling projects, and campus clean up projects.

Wildflower, Native Plant & Landscaping

These grants may be used for xeriscape projects, native flower and tree plantings, outdoor classrooms, median enhancements, permanent planters, and general landscaping plans.

Solid Waste, Litter Control & Recycling

These grants may be used for solid waste awareness and education, providing waste alternatives through recycling initiatives, seed grant for recycling materials such as recycling bins, litter prevention education/projects, clean up campaigns and associated environmental projects.

2004-2005 Grants Awarded

Our Grant Program for 2004-2005 was a resounding success. In total we awarded 75 grants to 50 organizations ranging from Schools (Elementary, Middle, High and Charter), Local Communities, Volunteer Organizations, KAB Affiliates and Government entities. The Grants awarded totaled $32,500, with an average grant amount of $425 being awarded. The organizations were located in no fewer than 28 Communities throughout the State.
