The Gila Pardners are a Grant County band, who will play traditional
bluegrass, old time gospel, and country-western music.
Sharon Myers and daughter Vickie played guitar and mandolin, respectively,
since their preteen years. They both share a passion for bluegrass gospel,
a love that shows and flows with gunuine genetic harmonies to their
audiences. Sharon has one of those classic country voices reminiscent
of Kitty Wells. Daughter Vickie's voice rises to a high tenor just above
Mom's to produce a melodic blend that can curl a porcupine's quills.
Not included in the photo is guest fiddler Susie Weaver from Flagstaff,
AZ. Susie has 20 years of fiddling from the California Sierras to Flagstaff
Arizona. She fiddled in a variety of bands; e.g., old time, traditional
music, jazz, and western swing.
Add to this rainbow of music the alto of Pat Barsch, who plays standup
bass for the band. Pat progressed from her student days in classical
piano to a passion for bluegrass. With standup bass in hand and/or keyboard,
Pat over the last 20 years performed for a number of different bands,
including rock-in-roll, blues, folk, and bluegrass, in Georgia, Arizona,
and now in new Mexico.
By contrast, Bob, Pat's husband, entered the music world only 3 years
ago. He represents a direct contradiction to the old adage that “you
can't teach old dogs new tricks.” When Bob strums guitar and sings
along with the band, the ghost of Texas Bob Wills will haunt the halls
of Hillsboro!
The Hillsboro Community Center is located on Eleanora Street, next to
the Union Church on the south hill overlooking the town. The Community
