La Piñon
began delivering services July 1992. The agency remains the only
organization in the southern part of New Mexico providing comprehensive
services to sexual assault and abuse survivors and their families.
Our services not only include theraputic out patient counseling, award winning prevention programs, 24/7 crisis intervention, the SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) Project and KIDTALK. In additon we offer professional training on
sexual assault and first response, sexual harassment and internet
safety. We perform Law Enforcement sexual assault first response traing locally and for Law Enforcment operating in surrounding counties.
La Piñon
's budget has tripled in size since 1992 with grants from Victims
of Crime Act, Violence Against Women, United Way, New Mexico Department
of Health, Dona Ana County, City of Las Cruces, Stocker Foundation and the Southern New Mexico Community Foundation. In past years we have been award we were
awarded NM State Attorney General funds to operate the SANE Project and various private Foudnation grants to ehance services..
La Piñon
is a non-for profit organization with a 15 member volunteer Board
of Directors. Our crisis intervention program is worked by volunteer
advocates who successfully complete a 40 hour training prior to responding in person and on the phone to sexual assault vicitms, their families and support system.
