Certified Law Enforcement Officers Applying for Police Officer Positions with the
Las Cruces Police Department.
The Las Cruces Police Department occasionally seeks experienced police officers to fill vacancies that occur within the department.
At this time, LCPD is NOT HIRING for lateral entry positions.
Please check this website periodically as the status changes as vacancies become available.
Salary is based upon experience.
Applicant Requirements:
- Must be currently certified as a Peace Officer or be eligible to receive certification.
- New Mexico Certified Law Enforcement Officers Preferred.
- Must successfully complete all selection process steps.
- Must have a minimum of one-year experience as a certified peace officer (not including academy
training time).
- Successfully complete 7-week Field Training and Evaluation Program.
- Will be required to successfully complete a one year probationary period after being hired.
- Starting pay is based on number of non-probationary years of experience.

Officers are represented by the Police Officers' Association and all benefits under contract upon completion of probation.
Processing Procedures
Written Examinations:
All applicants must take a written assessment to measure reading,writing, and grammar capabilities.
Physical Assessment:
Non New Mexico Certified Applicants must successfully pass the 60 percentile fitness standards and obstacle courses as required by the New Mexico Department of Public Safety. These are listed below:
New Mexico Certified Applicants will be required to perform a job specific Physical Assessment.
