VINTAGE LCPD

Prior to two-way radios being installed in the police cars, officers of LCPD relied upon a red blinking signal light atop the Hotel Herndon located at Main Street & Griggs Avenue. The officer was required to telephone in to the police station if the light was blinking. This indicated that there was a call for service somewhere in the city. When this officer notification system was employed, the population of Las Cruces was about 13,500 inhabitants.
