VINTAGE LCPD

Arrestees were taken to the jail which was located on the third floor of the Doña Ana County Courthouse (built in 1937) located between Lohman & Amador Avenues at Alameda Boulevard. Later, after a new addition was added to the courthouse, the jail was moved to the first floor, west side of the courthouse. The third floor then became offices of the Magistrate Judges.

LCPD officers of Day Watch - 1973. Helmets were required wear during this time because of the civil unrest of the times, especially in university cities.

The aerial photo at left, taken circa 1960, shows the City of Las Cruces municipal warehouse and facilities. The Las Cruces Police Department is highlighted. It was located at 1203 E. Lohman Ave. Pep Boys now occupies this square block area.
