        The Blizzard

        wind howling cross plain
rain and snow mix beat down and
        chill body clear through

        lightning flashes bright
        the sky lights up suddenly
        thunder rolls and rolls

        tree limbs beat window
drain pipes clog with fallen leaves
        water falls from roof

        streams fall from corners
        coming over drains falling
        make puddles below

        wind increases now
        howling like Irish Banshee
        to bring in the night

        rain turns to cold snow
that piles high in small corners
        and blows under doors

        all the night is cold
we sit by the fire to warm
        drink hot chocolate

        through the morning fog
the last cold flakes float to earth
        as wind finely dies

        sun shine follows storm
as fog burns off the meadow
        chilled air lingers

        bare stones and high drifts
        icicles hang from low eaves
        all new from last night
