Central Air
The heavy churring of jumbo exhaust fans on air conditioning units
as they kick on and hum, cool air whooshing through vents,
gray unit amid weeds needing whacking,
pollen drifting past distant
green trees and warm bricks, wasps,
dangling and dangerous in the eaves,
the sound
inside and out, hot and cool,
means sit outside, margarita on the patio,
pleasantly sweat. You'll sleep
with a light cotton blanket,
your house a ship gliding through cool waters,
your lover adjusting the ropes and haws, the thermostat.
