JUDICIAL BRANCH

The Supreme Court is the highest court in the judicial branch of government, and has superintending control over all inferior courts. Justices and Court of Appeals Judges are elected to
8-year terms; and District Court Judges are elected to

Vacancies that may occur are filled by gubernatorial appointment from a list of candidates provided by the Judicial Selection Commission. Such vacancy is open at the next general election. The Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) provides administrative support. The Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission evaluates all judges standing for re-election and prints their names along with a photo and biography on the website at www.nmjpec.org.
