11-20-98 * ONE DAY AFTER THIRD SURGERY, PERFORMED ON MY RIGHT EYE
It appears my eyes are where I want them now. I have about 20/40 in the left eye, and 20/15 in the right. We'll see how much regression I get. But right now it is exactly where I want it -- with one eye slightly off for the benefit of presbyopia when it comes around. One thing I've noticed since this last surgery is that I'm not as photosensitive as I had been (I no longer have to wear sunglasses all the time).

12-22-98 * ONE MONTH AFTER LAST ENHANCEMENT
I couldn't be any happier! I have a slight monovision, I see well up close AND far away, my eyes don't blur up much at night, and I have no need for eyeglasses at all. At this point this is where I want my eyes to be!
I will admit, reservedly, that I seldom put in the eyedrops I was suppose to after my last eye surgery. Now I just add regular non-preservative-free drops about 4 times a day.
It's WONDERFUL! Consider having LASIK yourself!

1-22-99 * AFTER AN EYE DOCTOR'S APPOINTMENT, AND WHY I'M SO HAPPY!
This is great! My vision is just the way I want it. I don't need to put in eye drops as often as I use to, less blurring at night. I still have halos around lights at night, but not enough to be of significance.

2-28-99 * MY EYES SEEM TO BE GOING BAD AGAIN again :-<
Well, it appears my eyes are regressing. It's blurry again to see my husband in the choir at church, and driving at night I feel I should wear eyeglasses, which I'm doing again. My left eye seems to be getting blurrier. A lady I know said her brother had to have about six enhancements before they finally got his eyes right. Another trip to Phoenix may be in the works again...

3-24-99 * MY EYES ARE GETTING EVEN WORSE....
Now even day by day I can tell my eyes aren't seeing well. It gets worse as night comes on. I stopped at a store that has an eye chart, and one eye is about 20/50 and the other is 20/90. What the hey?!?!? How frustrating, but it's still better than wearing contacts and glasses all the time. I have an eye doctor appointment next week, and will let you know more then.

3-31-99 * WHAT MEDICAL JOURNALS AND MY LOCAL EYE DOCS THINK ABOUT LASIK REGRESSION
For some reason just a tiny percent of people who have had LASIK have weird regressions. I may be one of them. If the LASIK procedure has taken too much of my cornea off, then I am unable to have my eyes LASIKed again, thus I'm stuck with this fluctuating vision. If I'm lucky I might be able to wear a contact lens in one eye.
My husband is a retired general surgeon, Yale and Mayo Clinic taught, IQ about 1000, handsome and fun and sexy and neato and kind, but let me get back to my eyes. He has access to medical articles off the internet. After reviewing about 170 articles regarding LASIK, this is what we learned:
1. Some eyes do have epithelial regrowth for some reason.
2. Some eyes may scar around the edge of the cut edge, and scar tissue can contract, thus it may cause the cornea to bulge more, which can change the vision.
One local eye doctor has no idea what's causing my regression. The other local one says to wait and see what the LASIK eye clinic says.
I'll be going back the week of April 22nd, and see IF anything can be done. Will let you know more after that.

4-12-99 * MAYBE IT WAS THE DRUG I was TAKING THAT CAUSED MY REGRESSION, SO I THINK I WON'T GO FOR ANOTHER ENHANCEMENT
I hate to admit it, but I was taking a generic brand of Meridia, for weight loss. About the same time I started it in mid-February, my vision started to change for the worse. The main ingrediant in the drug is sibutramine. Two side effects of Meridia are:
1. "The following additional adverse events were reported
in greater than or equal to 1% of all patients who received Meridia in
controlled and uncontrolled pre-marketing studies: SPECIAL SENSES: AMBLYOPIA"
(Amblyopia is "reduction or dimness of vision, especially that in
which there is no apparent pathologic condition of the eye.")
2. "Because Meridia can cause mydriasis, it should be used
with caution in patients with narrow angle glaucoma.
(Mydriasis is "dilation of the pupil of the eye caused by contraction
of the dilator muscle of the iris. With a decrease in light or the pharmacologic
action of certain drugs the dilator acts to pull the iris outward, enlarging
the pupil.")
My top side effect of the drug was dehydration. My lips were always chapped, my skin was flakey and dry, and I was always thirsty.
So I stopped taking the drug about a week ago, and my vision has improved to 20/40 right eye, 20/70 left eye, and with both eyes together 20/30.
I stopped at the Motor Vehicle Division and took their eye test, and passed it without need of visual correction! So I will stick with my eyes are they are now. That may be all you hear from me for a looonnnnggg while...

5-11-99 * ALL IS FINE AND DANDY!
No problems at all. Yea!
But truth be told, I started taking that Meridia-type drug again, and my vision is NOT changing! So I have no idea what caused the last regression.
(I stopped taking the drug a few weeks later)

May 1999 * THE LATEST LASIK INFO FROM MAYO CLINIC RESEARCHERS
Went to a Mayo Clinic meeting a few weeks ago, and learned more things about LASIK -- the latest news from researchers from the most top-notch medical clinic in the world! My husband trained as a general surgeon there, so we attend their meetings.
Click here for what I learned from the meeting.

October 1999 * DRUG-INDUCED BLURRINESS AGAIN?
AND SUCH SADNESS I'M HAVING; COULD TOO MUCH CRYING ALSO CAUSE REGRESSIONS?
My dear husband died the first of the month. I have been so sad because I miss him so much, at times I just cry and cry and wail and moan, and weep and weep. Does all that crying make me have to wear my eyeglasses (helpers) again? Did it cause my latest regression? Or could the anti-anxiety pills doing it? One of the side-effects of lorazepam is blurriness. So after I quit the pills, I'll let you know what happens.

December 1999 * BLURRY VISION
My vision is still blurry, and my local eye doctor said it may be because of the Ativan and Wellbutrin I'm taking to help me handle the grief of my husband's death.
So I won't know until I stop those drugs, which may be a few months yet. Yet my vision checked out as 20/20 and 20/30, yet I feel I have to wear my glasses most of the time. But life goes on...

January 2000 * STILL BLURRY
My eyes are still blurrier than mid-summer last year, but then I had my husband's illness and death to contend with, so I was crying lot, worried, lost weight from grief (from 125 # to 95 #), and started taking a drug that has a major side effect of blurred vision (Ativan). I plan on cutting down on it's use, and soon will be doing half a pill for a while, then no pills. Hopefully my eyes will return to the prior better vision I had before all this.
I seldom use eye drops any more.

June 2002 * THINGS COULDN'T BE MUCH BETTER!
I finally got time to see a local ophthalmologist for an eye exam. He said the flaps of LASIK were done perfectly, and no sign of any eye disease. My vision is monovision, one eye 20/20 or so, the other 20/40. Some opticians were surprised that I could read so well without bi-focals! Yea for LASIK monovision!
Thanks for your interest!

January 2004 * BLURRY AT NIGHT
Howdy! It's still a wonder to me how wonderfulmy eyesight is no matter how much I wander nor wonder. One der the most frustrating points about my eyes is that I wear eyeglasses when driving at night, when I want to look at stars at night, or other VIP occasions. Am still thrilled to have had LASIK.
