The Maxey - Thomas Debate
An Examination of a Proposition
Relating to Divorce and Remarriage

THE PROPOSITION

A married person who divorces his or her spouse
for any reason other than fornication, and marries another,
is a person who keeps on committing adultery

DENY: Al Maxey --- Above Left
AFFIRM: Ron Thomas --- Above Right

THE PARTICIPANTS

The following exchange is a debate between two Ministers of the Gospel concerning a vital issue relating to divorce and remarriage. The participants are Ron Thomas (Minister for the Highway Church of Christ in Sullivan, Illinois) and Al Maxey (Pulpit Minister and Elder for the Cuba Avenue Church of Christ in Alamogordo, New Mexico). Al is also the founder & owner of the BereanSpirit List, an Internet/e-mail discussion list consisting of 730 Christian men and women from all over the world.

Ron is a graduate of the East Tennessee School of Preaching, and has been preaching full-time since 1993. Al has his Masters Degree in Theology from Eastern New Mexico University, and has been in full-time ministry since 1976. An interesting coincidence is that Ron was baptized at the Cuba Avenue Church of Christ building in 1983, the very location where Al now serves. Neither one knew each other, however, as Al was serving as the Minister in Kaiserslautern, West Germany at the time. Shortly after his baptism, Ron moved to Guam.
