Born and raised in Ghana West Africa, Richard Ackah Essien, aka Magic Rocker, moved to America in 1988. Despite his mother's objections to pursuing a career in music, Richard persevered and soon became a reknown DJ in the Chicago, New York, Indiana, and Dallas areas. His mother soon gave him her blessing and even began giving him ideas to guide him through subsequent shows.
Because of his creative DJ abilities, Ben Osafo and Valeda Williams took him under their wings and taught him the art of writing music. In 1998, Richard recorded his first album entitled Back to His Roots. However, prior to its release, Richard's mother died, and he felt compelled to put the album away for a time. After the burial of his mother, he started working on a project he called Finally. By the conclusion of the album, due to the spiritual growth brought on by hardships endured during the album's creation, the title had evolved into Restored My Soul.
Magic Rocker, currently holding the title of "Wickedest Thang from Motherland Africa," takes the Afribbean genre to new levels. Restored My Soul is a musical express to a higher level of musical consciousness. A must have for Afribbean enthusiasts!
